Respected @SuvenduWB sir
With due respect, we, the Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) belonging to West Bengal, wish to draw your kind attention towards the severe crisis being faced by FMGs regarding internship allotment in the state.
We have completed our MBBS and have successfully qualified the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). The affected candidates belong to the June 2024, December 2024, June 2025, and December 2025 FMGE batches.
Unfortunately, no proper counselling for FMG internships was conducted in West Bengal for nearly the last 1.5 years, despite the(@NMC_BHARAT ) guidelines stating that counselling should be conducted twice every year. Due to this prolonged delay, the number of waiting FMGs has accumulated to around 370 doctors.
Recently, counselling was conducted on 21.05.2026, where only 266 doctors were allotted internship seats, while 104 eligible doctors were left behind. This is despite the fact that the NMC has already approved and increased the internship seat capacity for FMGs in West Bengal government medical colleges to approximately 1067 seats.
However, Swasthya Bhawan is reportedly releasing only 266 seats and citing lack of financial approval from the Finance Department for the remaining candidates.
We request you to take prompt action in it. @wbdhfw@BJP4Bengal@medicaldialogs@aimsa_fmsw@imajdnnational
WEST BENGAL acting as a step mother to the Doctors of the country. "No Seats and no funds". Even after passing FMGE,we are fighting for our career. WB clearly violating NMC guidelines and the rights of the passed candidates to complete their internship in their own state.
