Growth is often talked about like it’s something exciting and rewarding, but in reality, it can feel very uncomfortable. There are moments where you don’t feel like you’re improving. You feel confused, unsure, even stuck. But that phase is part of the process.
Sometimes growth looks like losing interest in things you used to enjoy. Sometimes it looks like distancing yourself from people who once felt familiar. Sometimes it looks like questioning everything you thought you understood about yourself. None of that feels good in the moment.
The difficult part is that you don’t always get immediate confirmation that you’re on the right path. You just have to keep going, even when it doesn’t feel clear. That’s where most people struggle.
It’s easier to stay where things are predictable, even if they’re not fulfilling. But growth requires stepping into uncertainty. It requires making decisions that don’t feel comfortable yet.
Over time, things start to make sense. You begin to see why certain changes were necessary. But while you’re in it, it just feels like a lot of adjustment.
Understanding that can make the process less frustrating and more intentional.
2020 during a field work in Bauchi.
As I was throwing away the bottle of yoghurt I had drank, saw more than 10 children running towards me.
While trying to understand what was happening, they reached for the bottle, poured water in it, shook it and were taking turns drinking it.
What I felt that day.
