Strong democracies rely on free and open conversations among neighbours, friends, and fellow citizens. Only then can trust be built, and can progress begin.
It’s always been a pleasure to visit Finland, and this was no exception 🇨🇦🇫🇮. Thank you to SuomiAreena for having me, and creating the space for these important discussions.
On June 19, 1865, African American communities in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their freedom from slavery — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation took effect.
For 161 years, Juneteenth has been a day of remembrance for the freedom that was delayed. It is also a celebration of the joy and resilience that flourished despite that delay.
The contributions of African Americans, whose struggle for freedom shaped our nation, are immeasurable. Yet too many Black families continue to bear the brunt of an affordability crisis that has pushed them out of the neighborhoods and communities they've built.
True freedom has a tangible impact on daily life: the ability to afford housing, earn a living wage, put food on the table, support a family, and create a future for generations to come.
As we celebrate today, we must recommit ourselves to ensuring this freedom is fully realized.
Happy Juneteenth, New York City.
More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
At a time when it feels easy to focus on what divides us, the Obama Presidential Center Grand Opening will be a reminder of what’s possible when communities come together and work for a common purpose.
This will be a moment to bring families together, to share the emotion, the possibility, and the magic of what it feels like to be led with hope.
We want you to be a part of this moment with us! Join us at https://t.co/laxJArxzYE at 11 a.m. CT Thursday, June 18 to watch our dedication ceremony.
Women in this country and around the world are naturally trained to accept pain as normal. By introducing the HER Agenda, future generations will no longer have to endure it in silence. We can change what wasn’t possible for me, my mother, and my grandmother.
It’s important that everyone in our community has access to the support they need 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

This man lost his mind a long time ago. It’s shameful that Republicans in Congress continue to enable him in every way. He’s destroying this country and his mental decline and erratic behavior is a national security crisis.
Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. He lost California by millions of votes in the 2024 election, and now he's trying to undermine confidence in our elections because he’s a repeat loser here.
Sorry Donald, the voters decide who leads California. Not you.
Olivia Rodrigo recalls being disturbed by seeing ICE using her music on socials:
“It was so deeply disturbing to see that propaganda, and the fact it was my song in there made me feel even more enraged. What they’re doing is so awful and barbaric and cruel. I am really sad to be in a country that thinks that’s OK.”

It would take far more than a month to honor the contributions of queer and transgender New Yorkers.
From the Cercle Hermaphroditos in 1895, the first trans advocacy group in the United States, to the drag balls of the Harlem Renaissance, to the Stonewall uprising, to the Lesbian Herstory Archives, to ACT UP!, founded in 1987 as queer people fought for their lives while the Reagan administration looked away, New York City's history has long been shaped by queer and trans New Yorkers.
To all our queer and trans neighbors: you deserve a City where you can afford to live safely, openly, and joyfully.
Happy Pride, New York City.
I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area.
Let women be.
Let women lead.
Let women thrive.
Let women speak up.
Let women represent.
Let women live peacefully.
Let women express themselves.
Let women control their bodies.
Let women live.
