Historians conservatively estimate 10 million Congolese lives perished due to murder, starvation, disease, and exhaustion during this genocidal exploitation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.Yet a glaring double standard persists in global memory. The Holocaust, transatlantic slave trade acknowledgments, Indigenous genocides, and other atrocities receive museums, annual remembrance days, official apologies, education mandates, and reparations discussions.
