@RutgersAltRoute A4: I provide specific feedback using comments like wow great job on x, now try to focus a bit more on y. Or groups are made up of various mastered skills to help each other improve. I also will say, I recognize and appreciate your effort on z.

@RutgersAltRoute A3: we have to construct our approach, mainly language, around new concepts carefully. I often allow students to work in collaborative groups to feel ok to explore the topic and their feelings on it. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2: Studnets come to ASL after failing other spoken languages; they come with an ‘I’m not a language person’ mindset. I use lots of kinesthetic and station like lessons to help them learn material. When they start improving their mindset changes to a “yet” outlook. #TeacherEd

@RutgersAltRoute A1: Sometimes at the high school level students come with completely fixed mindsets. I have found freshman to be more malleable than seniors. But a good relationship can go a long way! #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I always feel we need to be more realistic with our consequences which administrators are not good with! If students tear something they should fix it, if they make a mess they should clean it…natural consequences.

@RutgersAltRoute A3: depends on the student but I partner and group kids carefully, I check in with high need students and pull groups during independent work times, modify material using counselors and special ed recommendations. Record video supports and have examples in assignment links.
