Bravehearts of the @crpfindia who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 07 October. 🇮🇳

1. Head Constable Manpal Singh | @67BnCrp Battalion CRPF | 07 October 1996, Jammu and Kashmir. During an anti-terrorist operation, he was hit by a bullet while moving closer to the terrorists. Despite his injuries, he continued firing and made the supreme sacrifice.

2. Assistant Commandant Rajesh Rathore | @COMDT81BNCRPF Battalion CRPF | 07 October 1999, Manipur. While troops were returning from an operation, insurgents ambushed them. During the ensuing fierce encounter, he and three other CRPF personnel made the supreme sacrifice.

🇮🇳 6 October | Indian Air Force Bravehearts

We remember the Bravehearts of the Indian Air Force who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 6 October 2017. 🇮🇳

1. Wing Commander Vikram Upadhyay | 157 HU | Captain of the Mi-17 V5. He was flying an air-maintenance sortie carrying supplies to a forward Army post near Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. The helicopter crashed near the dropping zone and caught fire.

2. Squadron Leader S Tewari | 157 HU | Co-pilot of the Mi-17 V5. He was part of the same air-maintenance mission to deliver supplies to the forward post.

3. Master Warrant Officer A K Singh | 157 HU | Flight gunner aboard the helicopter during the air-maintenance sortie.

4. Sergeant Gautam Kumar | 157 HU | Flight engineer aboard the Mi-17 V5 during the supply mission.

The helicopter crashed at around 0659 hours near the dropping zone after taking off from a helipad north of Tawang. It caught fire immediately. All seven defence personnel aboard, including five IAF personnel and two Army personnel, sustained fatal injuries. A Court of Inquiry was ordered into the accident.

Major Ritesh Sharma made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 6 October 1999 at Jammu and Kashmir.

During the Kargil War, he served with his unit in combat operations and took part in the fighting in the Mushkoh Valley. After the war, he continued to serve in Jammu and Kashmir under Operation Rakshak.

On 25 September 1999, Major Sharma was wounded during a counter-terrorist operation in Kupwara. He was evacuated for treatment and continued to fight for his life for several days.
