My tips for GCSE teaching in one Tweet
1) Masses of modelling
2) Booklets
3) Retrieval (but make it English-y)
4) Prioritise authentic student response
5) Whole class feedback
6) What, How, Why
7) Think about what the text does, not what the author thinks
8) Make it granular
Good luck (and congratulations!) to all KS5 students receiving results today! It was a tough year to work through, and you should be immensely proud if you gave it your all!

Our growing department 'library' - line managers setting mentees pedagogical or subject reading every week or so in line with action steps and/or department priorities to discuss during coaching. Currently working through 'Why Don't Students Like School?' with my three mentees.
Absolutely! Differentiation so often becomes restricting knowledge from 'low ability' pupils. Then how are these children ever going to become 'high ability' ?

Although I really like teaching using my visualiser I find that occasionally switching to board work is valuable. It switches the focus of the Ss to a different media and they are instantly attentive. So I save it for really important stuff. And I keep it short and sweet.
We had trouble getting through on one of our Y11s today. The final hurdle of evidence gathering, and we had no creative juices flowing. So we cracked out a Dungeons and Dragons kit: behold, quite the nail-biter was woven!
There's a fair bit of talk today about school how long school lunches should be. Many schools have lunch breaks that are less that what would fly in an office! When will we stop treating children like adults?
