Given yesterday’s disturbing news about decreasing Black, Hispanic, and Native American medical school enrollees due to the 2023 SCOTUS affirmative action decision, I’m resharing this @PostOpinions excerpt from my book, “Legacy: A Black Physician Reckons with Racism in Medicine”
I was a high school freshman and thought Crash was the most thought-provoking movie on race in the 21st century.
Obviously, I didn't know what the hell I was thinking bc it was hot garbage and racist AF. The movie cover has a rapist cop rescuing a Black woman he victimized.
Whitewashing the uncomfortable parts of the past doesn't just affect Black stories. For example, you can't fully appreciate how a peanut farmer from Plains, GA became a beloved president unless you know TRUE Black History.
The unwhitewashed history of Jimmy Carter:
A thread.
@DollarCars Why has renting a car at #LAX taken over two hours 😭😭😭😭 we are exhausted! Our kids are jet lagged. Why after waiting 30 min for a shuttle to the rental office did it take another 40 to check out?! Now we are stuck in a 10 car deep line 4 rows across to get on the road?!?!
How can teachers guide students through a critical analysis of race and emotions using historical sources? Check out my new piece where I discuss my CARE Framework! @NCSSNetwork
When I tell you I am FLOORED:
“CODE SWITCH: DISTRIBUTING BLACKNESS, REPROGRAMMING INTERNET ART”

Shoutout to @zaritaylor_ and @LegacyRussell
How do we enable change? According to Greg Satell @Digitaltonto, ideas for change spread socially. So it's the structure of networks that determine how fast/far ideas for change travel. It's not about the mode of communication or even the individual influence of early adopters. In effect, it is small groups, loosely connected & united by a shared purpose that initiate the cascade of transformational change. That's why many change/improvement leaders are getting increasingly interested in network thinking & practice. See this: https://t.co/WlKYNrVaXA. You can also download Greg's workbook for transformational change for free: https://t.co/YBXQ0BXZkK

Historically Black town in Louisiana’s Cancer Alley is divided over a planned grain terminal
While some town residents support the project, other neighbors fear it will eradicate historic landmarks and pollute the area
