"It took too long, it took too much marching, it took too many tears & it was too close. This morning you woke up afraid to hope. You were scared to hope. Even with all the evidence you saw, you were scared to hope this morning. That tells you we need real change" ~
@VanJones68

CALLING ALL REFORMERS: We can fix the prison crisis in Mississippi!
#SB2123 would expand parole eligibility for thousands of people, reduce prison overcrowding, and save the state $45M!
💻 Tell MS lawmakers to PASS THIS BILL! https://t.co/nfuopQwjsl #MSPrisonReform
"There is frankly no reason whatsoever we should also be sentencing people to die from a virus, because that’s not justice — it’s neglect."
Thank you @LastWeekTonight + @LouislReed for raising the alarm on the humanitarian crisis in our prisons #COVID19
THREAD: There’s racism against Black Americans at EVERY stage of the U.S. justice system. If someone tells you there isn’t, SHOW THEM THE FACTS. Here’s the data that proves our ENTIRE system needs REFORM ⬇️
The pain and the fear run deep.
1 minute - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 minutes.
We are broken as a community.
But the response from people across this country gives me hope that a lynching like this in broad daylight might never again be tolerated #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd
George Floyd’s death was absolutely horrific. How did we get here? How did we get to this place where a Black man could be LYNCHED in broad daylight, surrounded by officers & bystanders, and nothing be done about it?
There needs to be CONVICTIONS. This is the tip of the iceberg.
This is an incredibly disruptive, uncertain time, many of us can’t wait for things to go back to “normal.”
But let’s not go back to the normal where 1000s of people are unhoused, workers lack benefits & health care, w massive gaps in the safety net
That should not be our normal
As we continue taking steps to protect each other from the #coronavirus, we cannot forget to protect the 2.3M people in the U.S. behind bars. #COVID19 threatens all of us.
Thank you @SheriffEd_HCSO for your compassionate leadership.
URGENT ACTION: We need to protect incarcerated people from #coronavirus. It's critical that our response to this global pandemic protects our most vulnerable people – including those behind bars. #COVID19

"As our country braces itself for the coronavirus, let’s make sure that those in the justice system are protected, too."
