Those are corporate franchises. 75% of small businesses are ma and pa restaurants. They don’t have the revenue to pay those wages. Also, your using fast food companies and comparing them to in door dining establishments with have a waitstaff. Not a fair comparison. Also, McDonalds does not pay their avg workers over $24 an hour unless it’s in one of the super expensive cities. Please provide a source for that.

My logic is based on how other industries work. As I stated before when you buy most items, the sales person gets a commission. You can apply the same framework here as an alternative to tipping. Not my preference but an alternative. The industry has been this way for 50+ years. If you don’t like it, don’t go out to eat or order take out but to not tip a server who provided outstanding service is completely unethical in my opinion! If anyone feels otherwise, open your own establishment, pay your workers double the minimum wage, ban tipping and let me know how it works out!

In many countries, the cost of food is 20%-25% higher. So you’re not expected to pay a tip but you’re paying more for the food. So it’s really the same thing regarding final price. I can only speak from experience in Canada, Northern Europe and the Mediterranean. Maybe in other countries there is a difference.
