@mikeyj2208@WhatsuhStoploss Cry me a river. My property taxes are more than $15,000 per year in the lovely liberal landscape of Portland Oregon. And I have a pretty modest house.
@HemingwayBurger@willow_wwhimsy The rope goes up and down, but the incense burner swings side to side. The monks need to manipulate the burner so that it swings appropriately. By the end, there will be one monk left and he will be rising about 10-15 feet in the air.
@RickD747@willow_wwhimsy This isn’t about God. Nor is it about worship. This is a simple method that the priests used to mask the smell of of 1000 stinky pilgrims.
@hotscotty21@willow_wwhimsy No exit signs. No sprinklers. Everyone clothed in loose-fitting gear. That incense burner showers sparks with every pass. A dangerous and exiting time to be in church.
@willow_wwhimsy@Gunslinger2C It’s the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Santiago, Spain. Pilgrims would arrive at Santiago seeking nourishment after a long journey on foot. But they stank. Aromatics in the incense burner masked the smell.
@KATUNews They tried to double the money that went to transit. Nobody rides the bus anymore, because transit organizations are in horribly inefficient.
@KATUNews Why should we have government employed ODOT employees, leaning on their shovels when they could contract it out and have private contractors, leaning on their shovels for much less money.
@COBobbertHill@LillianBelle2 What? Oregon does exactly the same thing. Four of Oregon’s six congressional districts meet in downtown Portland. A fifth includes the cities of Corvallis and Eugene, which are both liberal college towns.
