Then the tide got generous. Three more joined the first two—five in all: 45, 48, 41, 41, and 44cm. A fine hand, if you ask me. I always envied those “holding-the-fish” photos, so today I set the timer and took one myself. No regrets 48years old.
Another Chidori cowrie… Summer beachcombing isn’t so bad. Chasing a glossy fresh-dead shell always ends the same: I stop waiting for the tide and wade in. Still, even a battered shell can be beautiful. That’s the magic of beachcombing.
I’ve been exchanging letters with my Russian friend Elena for years. I told her Bilibin’s art reminded me of Japanese ukiyo-e. Later, she visited a Bilibin exhibition at the Russian Museum—and it actually mentioned the influence of ukiyo-e. Somehow… that made me smile.
