The thing is that you do need to turn off a few of your cognitive faculties to truly dig Disclosure Day, which I found to be a lot of classic Spielberg fun, solid craft, but if you were to dig into the shadow version of it — say, one Tony Kushner would have written…
Wyatt Russell in Disclosure Day is a tragic fable to stay-at-home boyfriends everywhere. A microcosm of the film’s larger theme: that it’s more important to listen than to compulsively try to fix things.
to the argument that Spielberg/Lucas ruined the artistry of American movies with blockbusters, i am always reminded about the Seinfeld line about Lewis & Clark discovering the Mississippi: “they woulda found that eventually.”
Watched Spielberg’s A.I for the first time… holy shit. Utterly bewildering at times (complimentary) but the last 30 minutes might be the most profoundly beautiful, sincere piece of filmmaking he’s ever done (which is insane to say). Might be my new fave Spielberg.
