By popular request, here is the entirety of my video submission for the #AOS19AK Diversity & Inclusion initiative. Thank you all for your kind words and support. I am glad that people found it inspiring! Thanks also to @AmOrnith for allowing me to say what needed to be said!
What is โQueer Ecology?โ ๐ณ๏ธโ๐ A field that defies singular definition, much like the queer experience itself. Join us this #PrideMonth in challenging the binary and embracing the spectrum.

Halloween is a holiday with a lot of wildlife connections. How did bats, owls, toads and ravens get associated with #Halloween in the first place?
@NWF naturalist @TheyDoResearch unpacks it all here--and it's pretty fascinating.

Out today: @TheyDoResearch 's review of experimental #Bioacoustics sound propagation studies testing the Acoustic Adaptation Hypothesis. Do tests of animal sound degradation support the AAH? Sometimes, but not overwhelmingly. It varies by taxon.

So honored that I was able to attend as a panelist. Thank you all for your amazing questions regarding pronoun use and creating safe spaces for trans and non-binary scientists!
Just finished our #NAOC2020 Mixed-flock diversity roundtable, and a million thanks to our amazing panelists. You all had such thoughtful, compassionate, and smart advice. Thank you for sharing your stories and wisdom with us! #LGBTQ+ #ornithology
Personally, I feel I was lucky to have finished up my MS degree this spring. Although several prospective PhD positions have essentially evaporated into pandemic pergatory, I have lots of data to work with in the meantime, even if it is on my own dime.
Speaking to others at #NAOC2020 about the effects of the pandemic worldwide has been entirely eye opening. I'd like to start a thread discussing this. How has the pandemic affected your research and/or career progression? @NAOCbirds, what do you think?
#NAOC2020 is my first international conference, and I am so grateful for the perspective I've seen from scientists of other countries! Already I have made some international friends, and hope to see them in person in 2022!
Trans and non-binary grad students and post-doctoral scholars: Apply for a Ben Barres Fellowship for professional development. Deadline September 30. Learn more at https://t.co/3qtHt0TNVp
We are so excited for #NAOC2020 next week, and are so excited to meet you! We are hosting 2 events, so make sure to add us to your calendar: 1. A round table - 'A mixed flock: diverse narratives within #ornithology' & 2. #LGBTQIA+ & Allies Social
@MSzelmeczka@BirdingMagazine@JERutter@birdnirdfoley@AmOrnith@bellzisbirding @N8Swick @GREGNEISE @sngcanary914 @MatthewHalley @thistrain I'm in favor of a general rule where birds cannot be named after someone, instead using unique names descriptive of morphology or behavior. We can never be sure what someone might do or how cultural morals may change, so it's best to avoid the problem altogether
Hey young queer science geeks: this summer I got to go tide pooling with a cute boy (my partner!) and wore a fun dress while I did it. Life can be pretty ooo sometimes and I hope you get to find your bliss. ๐๐ผ *middle finger to rep birds* #queerinstem#LGBTQIbaes#lgbtinstem
