**1/ THE QUOTE**

"We'll be looking at any proposal that is a viable solution, but I do think if we have the supply in this country and we're exporting it right now that might be one way of getting at it."

That is Senate Majority Leader John Thune, on September 15, 2026, confirming that a US diesel export ban is on the table.

Translation: America comes first. Europe can freeze.

**2/ THE NUMBERS — WHY TRUMP IS DESPERATE**

US diesel hit $6.27 a gallon this week — a new all-time high, surpassing the previous record of $5.82 set in June 2022.

Gasoline is at $4.22. Diesel is 48% higher than gasoline.

The math for American consumers is brutal: diesel is up $2.25 per gallon from a year ago. For businesses, that means $284 million more per day in fuel costs. For consumers, $377 million more per day.

Total additional cost to the US economy: **$4.63 billion per week**.

With the midterms in eight weeks, Trump cannot afford $6 diesel.

**3/ THE EUROPEAN DEPENDENCY — THE NUMBERS THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO SEE**

Before the 2022 sanctions, Russia supplied 53% of Northwest Europe's seaborne diesel imports.

That is gone.

Now, the US is Europe's largest diesel supplier. The US supplies 35% of UK diesel imports alone. EU and UK diesel imports were running at 732,000 barrels per day in August — the highest since May.

If the US bans exports, that supply disappears overnight.

**4/ THE EUROPEAN STOCKPILE — ALREADY CRITICAL**

Europe's diesel inventories are at their lowest levels since 2022. They have dropped approximately 30% since the end of March.

The war in the Middle East has crippled Qatar's LNG export infrastructure. Qatari LNG was Europe's cheaper alternative. That option is now gone.

Gas storage in the EU is just above 50% — historically low for this time of year. At current import rates, storage will be only 75% by November, far below the 90% target Brussels set in 2022.

**5/ THE WINTER THAT WILL BREAK EUROPE**

Diesel is not just for trucks. It powers:
— Road transport (everything that moves on European highways)
— Home heating (millions of European households)
— Heavy industry (construction, mining, agriculture)

The EU lacks processing capacity. It relies heavily on imports. It is the most vulnerable region in the world to a diesel shortfall.

A US export ban would cut off its largest supplier at the exact moment it needs fuel most.

**6/ THE EUROPEAN RESPONSE — SILENCE**

What are European governments doing to prepare?

Nothing.

They are still talking about Russian drones and sending more money to Zelensky. They are not talking about diesel. They are not talking about winter. They are not preparing.

The European diesel crunch is not a hypothetical. It is already here. And Brussels is ignoring it.

**7/ THE PARALLEL WITH NORD STREAM**

This is the same pattern we saw with Nord Stream.

Europe cut itself off from cheap Russian gas — and replaced it with expensive US LNG.

Now Europe is about to lose its diesel supply from the same "ally" that replaced Russia.

Washington is not an ally. Washington is a supplier. And suppliers, like everyone else, put their own interests first.

**8/ THE DOMESTIC POLITICAL CALCULATION**

Trump is not doing this to hurt Europe. He is doing this to save his party.

Energy prices are the single most visible economic issue for voters. Diesel at $6 is a political catastrophe for Republicans in Michigan, Maine, Iowa, and every rural district in America.

If Trump can bring diesel down by banning exports, he will. Europe's winter is not his problem. The midterms are.

Europe cut off Russian gas. It replaced it with American LNG.
Now America is about to cut off diesel, too.
And Europe's response is silence.

The European energy crisis is not a crisis of supply. It is a crisis of leadership. A leadership that has confused allegiance with interest, and ideology with strategy.

When the diesel runs out in January, Europe will discover that no amount of rhetoric about "European values" will warm a single home.

Quand je vois les réactions complètement hystériques de certains pro Ukraine dès que tu sors un peu de leur narratif, que tu poses des questions ou que tu oses simplement avoir un avis différent, c’est assez absulument terrifiant.

Les mecs sont tellement binaires et manichéens qu’ils passent directement en mode agressif : insultes, attaques, procès d'intention, tu te fait traiter de collabo directement ! En gros t’es avec eux ou t’es contre eux.

Si vous regardez bien, c’est toujours exactement la même mécanique.

À l’époque du Covid, ceux qui osaient simplement remettre en question l’injection ou certaines mesures étaient directement traités de complotistes, d’antivax ou d’anti-science. Alors que non, pas forcément. Certains se posaient simplement des questions ou constataient des incohérences.

C’est exactement pareil avec les Français qui demandent juste qu’on gère mieux nos frontières ou qu’on contrôle davantage l’immigration : ils se retrouvent directement traités de fachos ou d’extrême droite.

Et maintenant, tu poses des questions sur l’Ukraine ou sur l’implication de l’Europe : tu deviens pro-russe.

C’est toujours pareil. On ne répond pas à ce que tu dis, on te colle une étiquette pour éviter d’avoir à en discuter.

On nous parle constamment de démocratie, de pluralisme et de liberté d'expression en France, mais certaines méthodes utilisées dans le débat public ressemblent de plus en plus à une police de la pensée : tu peux penser ce que tu veux, à condition de penser correctement.

Quoi qu’il en soit les amis, préparez-vous à bouffer de la propagande de guerre de tous les côtés dans les jours, semaines et mois qui arrivent. Et surtout, gardez votre putain d’esprit critique.

Alastair Crooke (@AWCrooke): What happened in Yemen is a revolution, not a tit-for-tat over a blockade. Ansar Allah spent seven to nine years preparing it. The fight is with the Saudi state the British and Americans built on a narrow Wahhabi pillar.

“What happened in Yemen is not just a sort of tit-for-tat against Saudi Arabia or about a certain blockade. It is a revolution. I think it should be understood as a revolution. It has been planned for at least 7 years, more like 9 years. They have been working on this. It is thought through by Ansar Allah, who are always deprecated in the West because they’re barefooted tribesmen and things, but it has been well planned.

And so Saudi Arabia, if it goes down the path of conceding to Ansar Allah, it means they’ll have to return the three provinces that they stole in the 1930s. In 1934, they stole three provinces of the Yemenis. And the Houthis have strong tribal connections with those provinces, which are now generally sort of assumed to be within Saudi Arabia, but they will want them back. They will want an end to the blockade, and they will also want payments which were due to them on certain transactions. And they will demand the end of the UAE and the Saudi forces in the south. In fact, they are being destroyed anyway. They’ve been literally driven out because they’re mercenaries. They’re not Saudi forces; they’re mercenary forces. And the mercenary forces have all been fleeing as the Houthis have used ballistic missiles against them. And you can see they’ve just fled from the area. There’s a slight interaction: actually, the UAE mercenaries are not letting the Saudi mercenaries pass at the moment until they pay them. But I mean, they’re both mercenaries, and the Houthis will drop a few ballistic missiles on them just to make up their mind more quickly.

So why do I say it’s a revolution? Because really it goes back to: what is Saudi Arabia? Saudi has been imposing on Yemen really for all these years since the founding of Saudi Arabia, trying to change its style of Islam, which is an esoteric either Ismaili or Zaidi type of Islam, but it’s an esoteric type of Islam. I’m not talking sectarianism. I’m just talking about the nature of Islam in Yemen being much more esoteric. It’s much more inwardness rather than the literal extremist Puritan idea of the Wahhabi of the Najd form of Islam that was weaponized by Abdulaziz and by Ibn Saud in the 1930s. They were a Puritan sort of militia that ran amok through the Middle East. They attacked Mecca; they attacked Karbala; they killed thousands—tens of thousands in Karbala. And eventually Abdulaziz was forced to try to contain them and to stop this because, first of all, it was the beginnings of the petrol—the fuel oil bonanza taking place in Saudi Arabia and he wanted to convince the British and the Americans that it could become a state. But that movement was never entirely retired. It was just put on standby.

But this was the sort of incompatibility, the contradiction that takes place in Saudi Arabia. It claims to represent all of Sunni Islam. But actually it is based on the very narrow pillar of this very violently Puritan component—desert Islam—that regarded any change from their tradition as bid‘a, as heresy by innovation. And that anyone who did not subscribe to their view of Islam deserved death. This was the progenitor of ISIS, just to make clear. What’s the difference between this Wahhabism from the desert and ISIS? Nothing. They were the same. It was just a different formulation of them.

So what happened with this was that eventually he had to take on these people because they were threatening the whole of the project of building a Saudi power that would be acceptable to Britain and to the United States and the outside world. So the British machine-gunned them for him. And they killed most of them. But the point is they never represented the main tribes of Saudi Arabia, who also were attacked and destroyed. And then Ibn Saud then married all their wives—married a wife from each tribe that he had defeated. So he ended up with 22 wives. Because he thought this was a way of preventing them from attacking him further. But they’re still there. And they still remain resentful of the sort of one-family formula which guides Saudi Arabia, because that’s what it is.

There were old sort of traditions that riches had to be spread in some sort of way that was fair between the tribes, that their territories and their perquisites were respected. Some of the tribes, like the Shammar, have more than a million members. They’re not just tiny little militias. These are big tribes. They extend beyond the boundaries of Saudi Arabia. All the finance, all the money, all the essence of the Saudis’ kingdom project was all focused in one family. And so the resentment still continues about that.

So the idea that Saudi Arabia is a sort of a strong modern political state is, to a certain extent, a myth. Yes, it had money. It doesn’t today. But also, it either makes concessions to the Houthis and risks the revolution gaining more oxygen and becoming bigger and spreading to Iraq and to other parts, which is happening. There is a real sense, a feeling in the air of revolution in the Middle East at the moment. Because a small group of people have just taken over and shown the hollowness of Saudi power, much as Iran has shown the hollowness of US power during this period. And of course this is animating people. And don’t forget Iraq. We’ve had Iran; now the shoe has dropped in Yemen. And remember that when the last supreme leader was assassinated by Israel, the funeral that followed in Iraq, millions turned out there in Karbala, even in Najaf, which is more conservative. Millions turned out. Across Iran, people walked miles to pay their respects to this.

So what we’re playing with is revolutionary fire. I’m emphasizing it because it all tends to be viewed from the Western perspective that this is all about Saudi relations and Gulf relations with the United States, and it’s all about oil, and are we going to have to pay so much for diesel. But actually, what is happening is there’s a big reversion taking place. The whole region is sort of on the cusp of reverting to the old power paradigm that used to exist until the fall of the Shah, in which the big civilizational powers historically have always been Mesopotamia and Persia/Iran, whatever you want to call it. But these were real powers in the real sense. I mean, functional, functioning powers with big populations and riches, and were the powers in the region really until, first of all, the Clean Break document, which was written by Richard Perle and David Wurmser in ’96, recommended this inversion. We’re going to change the whole power structure, and the new pillars of American energy dominance and power are going to be Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, and all of the allies of Iran are going to be eliminated, and this new power structure would then also be the basis for normalization with Israel, i.e. the beginnings of the Abraham Accords.

And then in 2006, after the war of Israel against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Dick Cheney was complaining bitterly that the war was supposed to weaken Iran and instead it strengthened Iran. And he was talking with Prince Bandar, who was then the intelligence leader, and we have the details of this meeting exactly because John Hannah, who was the aide of Cheney wrote it and even published it. And what Bandar said was, listen, the king believes that the weak point of Iran is Syria. Syria is the pipeline, their emergency routes. We take out Syria, and Iran is weakened, if not lost. And Cheney, at that point, said, well, hold on. Hold on. How are you going to take out Syria? And Bandar replied to him with one word: Islamism, extreme Islamism. And that was the Wahhabis coming back in. And what Cheney was doing was legitimizing the use of this extreme current of Najdi Islam, Wahhabism, which then transformed into the various components of ISIS and Nusra and everything else as a sectarian tool to weaken Iran and to complete the power shift that now the Sunni Gulf states were the pillar of power and the pillar of Israeli substance in the region and Iran was kicked out.

And that’s why this thing is so important, because what we’re seeing with Iran and now with the Houthis, and we may see more components to this happening, is a complete turnaround back to the old system. Iran has power and the Houthis have power.”

The City and Washington built a garrison on a desert militia and called it a pillar of order. Ansar Allah is treating that construction as what it was: colonial. The exit is development and a settlement the dollar cannot switch off. More garrisons will not restore 1934.

I respect that Czech President Petr Pavel, as a former NATO general, would like to fight. I would therefore appreciate it if he respected the fact that I prefer peace.

Czech President Petr Pavel, whom I have always treated with respect and due regard as the head of the sovereign Czech Republic, often tends to comment on my work. This time, he took issue with my position on attempts to provoke a military conflict between NATO and Russia.

I understand that, as a former NATO general, he would like to fight. I expect him to respect my commitment to pursuing peace. Let me therefore repeat once again, so that there can be no doubt:

1️⃣ The West’s military rhetoric and the search for a pretext for a military conflict with Russia are intended to distract from the liberal world’s inability to address basic challenges such as the price and availability of energy and fuel, as well as illegal migration.

2️⃣ As long as I am Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, I will not agree to Slovak soldiers taking part in any military adventure provoked by anyone within NATO.

3️⃣ In the event of an actual armed attack against one or more NATO member states, the relevant Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty provides NATO members with several options for demonstrating solidarity.

The state election in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern marks a historic failure. Germany’s ruling government party failed to reach even 5% and was kicked out of the state parliament. No seat, no representation!

This was unthinkable before, but now the people have had enough.

Russia's Support for the Status Quo vs the German Disaster

Despite Kiev's attempts to undermine this weekend's Russian parliamentary elections with a barrage of drones (apparently sanctioned by its "civilized" foreign backers), the preliminary results of these elections are as follows:

✅ Voter turnout: 56.5%
✅ United Russia: 57.54%
✅ Communist Party: 13.80%
✅ LDPR: 9.30%
✅ New People: 7.92%
✅ A Just Russia: 5.11%
✅ Pensioners' Party: 1.99%

Germany also held state elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania this weekend. While voter turnout was higher than average in the latter, the results are devastating to the powers that be: Merz’s CDU is currently at about 5%, which is barely enough to maintain representation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In contrast, AfD is projected to receive 38%.

The difference between the two results is striking. In Russia, the public essentially voted for the status quo, supporting the country's trajectory. In theory, this could mean that the ruling party (and Putin) have the blessing to take the gloves off when it comes to you-know-who's proxy war in Ukraine against Russia.

At the same time, the Communists and LDPR represent the real opposition in Russia, with notable results. The main reason Western think tanks don't cast them as such is the fact that they aren't pro-Western Liberals ready to sell Russian resources to the highest foreign bidder, as was the case in the 1990s.

In Germany, the public is fed up with the status quo: German de-industrialization as part of the forever-war trajectory, while being fleeced at the behest of the increasingly authoritarian EU, which defines its foreign policy without the real authority to do so. Whether the AfD can deliver a real difference remains to be seen, but the message is clear.
