It is utterly shameful how the JVP/NPP government and its political henchmen running the state owned petroleum distributor attempted to manipulate the statement by CEO of @HSBC that a #SriLanka buyer paid USD 286 for barrel of oil. They even threatened to sue HSBC. The man clearly referred to ‘REFINED OIL’ and ‘door to door’ price and never for crude, as accused by the government of #SriLanka. In fact the CEO didn’t mean any wrong, only analysed the fallout of the war. But our big talking stick waving tough guys wanted to ‘teach the man a lesson’ and ended up egg on their faces. https://t.co/COm3POkCsz
During the recent interview on #HydePark, I highlighted that we are not giving enough focus to deeper economic integration.
While Bengaluru, Hyderabad & Chennai grow at 12–14%, Sri Lanka is still lagging.
Economic integration is not about losing sovereignty, it’s a proven strategy (just look at ASEAN). India is negotiating big deals with the EU, yet we remain stuck with old FTAs from decades ago.
Time to move forward with a comprehensive economic partnership.

THIS IS ABSOLUTE CINEMA 🍿
Iran has offered to supply oil or anything that Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 needs because it stood with Iran in difficult times
"If Sri Lanka demands, we are ready to supply them extra oil. They are our friend" 🔥
Sanctioned Iran is helping friends while US and Israel who are superpowers are begging for help from their friends 😭😭
We have seen everything
Long queues reported at fuel stations across Sri Lanka as the Government begins the fuel quota system.
Motor cars are limited to 15L per week, while motorcycles receive 5L, under the QR-based distribution system. ⛽🇱🇰
This could have ended badly. ⚠️
Huge turnout at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, but the congestion and crushing near the gates highlight a serious safety risk.
A proper crowd management mechanism is urgently needed to protect fans in the upcoming games.
🚨 MASSIVE STATEMENT BY ANGELO MATHEWS ON USMAN TARIQ BOWLING ACTION 🚨
Angelo Mathews Said 🗣️
“Usman Tariq is deliberately taking a two-second pause before releasing the ball to deceive the batter, and I don’t understand how that can be considered fair. It clearly amounts to unfair play. If you have to stop midway and strike a pose while bowling, then why not just bowl standing still? Bowlers run in to gain pace and momentum that’s the whole point.”
“The coal scam is confirmed. The biggest tender under the NPP government is corrupt,” says MP Ajith P. Perera, citing today’s inspection at the Lakvijaya plant as proof of poor coal quality.
What a shame.
The previous government, through the Women’s Empowerment Act No 37 of 2024, finally managed to legally establish the Women’s Commission, a hard-won victory after more than 30 years of relentless struggle by women’s activists.
All what the NPP government had to do was give life to the Women’s Commission.
- Implement it.
- Set up the office.
- Provide resources and funding.
- Guarantee autonomy so it could function independently.
Instead - what happened?
The first Chairperson resigns within four months, citing her inability to carry out the mandate due to the government’s failure to provide an independent operational framework.
That alone says everything.
What an absolute shame.
This is the same government that rode to power on the shoulders of women, chanting “ගැහැණු එක මිටට”, promising dignity, rights, and empowerment. I clearly remember NPP leaders declaring, “අපි කන බත් එක, අපි දරුවන්ට උයලා දෙන ආහාර පවා දේශපාලනිකයි.”
If that is truly the belief, then the bare minimum owed to women is to ensure that institutions created to protect their rights are actually allowed to function.
So what are the 20 NPP women MPs doing?
Instead of repeating “ගැහැණු එක මිටට” on campaign stages, why not work to ensure the Women’s Commission is operational?
There is no point taking to the streets in Matugama and shouting when Harini is harassed, while the very statutory body meant to prevent and address such injustice is left dormant.
Activate the commission.
Empower the institution.
Let it do its job independently
That is real solidarity! Not slogans.
