Today's line-up and in-possession set-up from Alonso along with this quote potentially indicates his willingness to be more aggressive on the ball moving forward. I feel like his thinking might've been along the lines of, the tactics to de-risk Chelsea's strategy (as explained in the recent @Thinkingtactics video) has not proved to be worth the trade-offs. Chelsea are still leaking goals while their attacks suffers, especially with Pedro out injured. Thus, take the handbrake off a bit by creating more favourable attacking dynamics with the momentum and on-ball control hopefully contributing to better defensive performances. It will be interesting to see how this develops in the coming games given how leaky Chelsea's defence was in the first half.

Why does Xabi Alonso often cede possession control? De-risking Chelsea's strategy is the main reason behind the decision as @fahdahmed987 explains below 👇
I am finally on YouTube! Pleased to launch @Thinkingtactics, where I will analyse specific tactical topics and occasionally post scouting videos. I believe that it's the right time to get on YouTube as I'm confident with my core knowledge and think I can share valuable insights to a larger audience. I posted my first video today as well. Would really appreciate any feedback and support. Links attached below.
