Yobe SEMA continues Support to Flood Victims
...Distributes food and NFI to 700 HH in Fune
...Continues Disbursement of Cash in Karasuwa targeting over 895 victims with 30,000 each
In a continiution of implementation of Governor Mai Mala Flood Response plan aimed at cushioning the plight of flood victims in Yobe State, the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has rolled out a series of relief interventions targeting the most affected areas.
SEMA, in collaboration with the Karasuwa Local Government Flood Committee, continues the disbursement of cash stimulus targeting 895 victims of the 2024 flood in Jajimaji. This initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to provide financial assistance to households severely impacted by the flooding that devastated the region earlier this season.
So far 604 beneficiaries have already received their cash stimulus after a thorough validation process conducted by the flood committee. The cash support is aimed at helping families rebuild their lives after the extensive damage caused by the flooding.
The state government, through SEMA, is committed to reaching all verified victims as part of Governor Buni's commitment to post flood recovery and reintegration.
In another major relief response, SEMA has supported over 700 households in Fune LGA with first line food and non-food items.
This intervention, which covered 20 communities across 13 wards, was meticulously planned to address the urgent needs of flood victims based on the extent of damage to their homes and livelihoods.
The items distributed include rice, pasta, combo packs, nylon mats, mosquito nets, buckets, kettles, bath soap, washing soap, detergent, and wax print fabric.
These items are expected to provide immediate relief to the affected families, ensuring that they have the basic necessities to survive the post-disaster period.
The agency emphasized that the selection of beneficiaries was based on an assessment of the severity of damages, ensuring that the most vulnerable households received timely assistance.
Both interventions are part of SEMA’s ongoing efforts to cushion the impact of the 2024 flood disaster, which has left thousands of households displaced and in urgent need of support. The state government, under Governor Buni's administration, continues to prioritize flood response and recovery.
These interventions in Karasuwa and Fune LGAs highlight the state's commitment to addressing the needs of flood victims and providing timely and essential support to help them rebuild their lives.
SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Goje, reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to ensuring that no one household is shortchanged . He stated, “Our mission is to ensure all policy pronouncement of His Excellency are implemented. We will continue working tirelessly until every affected community is reached.”
As the flood response continues, Yobe State remains committed to building resilience and mitigating the impact of future disasters on its communities.
