North Korea test-fired two types of submarine-launched strategic cruise missiles off its east coast in the Sea of Japan on October 14, according to state media.

South Korean military officials assessed that one missile was launched from a vertical launch system and the other from a torpedo tube, with images suggesting the tests were conducted from the Hero Kim Kun Ok, a modified diesel-powered submarine.a

European officials have rejected a U.S. proposal to unfreeze part of Russia’s frozen sovereign assets and transfer the funds to a financial vehicle overseen by Washington as part of efforts to revive peace talks to end the war in Ukraine.

The proposal was presented by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during discussions with Ukrainian and European officials in Miami.
