A throwback to 1970 in Chelmsford, Essex, when tensions between two iconic youth subcultures, Skinheads and Greasers, had apparently reached such a level that the Mayor stepped in to try and mediate between the groups.
According to the post, a meeting was arranged on 13th May 1970 in an attempt to ease tensions and prevent further clashes between the rival youth movements that were making headlines at the time.
It’s fascinating to look back at how different generations have had their own cultural divisions, rivalries and disagreements. Many people talk about today’s social and political tensions, but this reminds us that disagreements between different groups of people have been part of British history for decades.
Whether you were a Skinhead, a Greaser, a Mod, a Rocker, or just remember the stories from back then, it’s a fascinating piece of local Chelmsford history.
Has anyone got any more information about this meeting, newspaper cuttings, photos, or family stories from the time? It would be interesting to hear from people who remember what was going on in Chelmsford during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Exactly why I don’t trust female officers in Essex police.
The husband of an officer sending my brother texts when he matched with his wife on Tinder. Allegedly she was a bit easy 👀👀

We’ve just been tagged in a post circulating on social media, and if the account is genuine, the allegations are extremely concerning.
According to the post, a female driver was reportedly stopped on Hanningfield Road near the area known locally as “Deadman’s Corner” on West Hanningfield Road, close to the Baddow Park Estate.
The post claims that a group of men allegedly lined up across the road, preventing her from passing, and then attempted to gain access to her vehicle. It is alleged they told her to get out of the car, but thankfully she remained inside, kept driving, and managed to get away before contacting the police.
The account also states that:
• The incident allegedly happened at around 8:20pm.
• A witness reportedly saw two men standing in the middle of the road earlier that evening.
• The victim was left extremely shaken by the incident.
• Police have reportedly been informed.
• The post mentions three white Ford Transit vans and two Ford Focus vehicles, one white and one red, although this information has not been independently verified.
As always, we cannot verify the claims made in the original post, and everyone should avoid speculation about the identity, nationality, or background of anyone involved unless confirmed by police.
However, if this incident did occur as described, it serves as a reminder for people to remain vigilant, keep vehicle doors locked while driving, and report any suspicious activity immediately to Essex Police.
Has anyone else heard about this incident or seen any official information released? If so, feel free to share any verified updates in the comments.
Just a thought…
How many times do we hear the phrase, “It’s a Home Office decision”?
The Home Office has enormous influence over immigration policy, asylum accommodation, policing priorities, border security, and many of the decisions that affect our daily lives. Yet most people couldn’t name a single official working there, and we don’t get a direct vote on who holds many of those positions.
We vote for MPs, councillors and PCCs, but when it comes to major decisions that impact our communities, we’re often told the decision sits with the Home Office.
So here’s a question:
Should senior Home Office officials be more accountable to the public? Should there be greater transparency about who is making these decisions, what evidence they’re using, and how those decisions are reached?
Many people feel that if organisations and departments have such a huge impact on the lives of ordinary taxpayers, then there should be far more openness and scrutiny.
What are your thoughts?
Should the Home Office remain as it is, be reformed to make it more transparent, or would you go further and completely replace the current system with something more directly accountable to the public?
Interested to hear people’s views.

Did you know on Wednesday these 15 monsters were locked up. They were raping a child between 2007 - 2011. They clearly thought they were getting away with it. I’m sure there are many more to uncover. Reporting restrictions have only been lifted.

Matt Lee is the worst Journalist in history.
Not only has he wrote an article about us in Chelmsford but he’s spelt Henry’s last name incorrectly.
He’s then linked the story about us and put up pictures of the riots to try and give the image that we are far right thugs.
We’ve only ever arranged peaceful marches locally and do so much for our community but you’ve used something against us which could put us in danger.
What a disgrace @essexlive and Matt Lee are.
How dare you spell Henry’s name wrong it’s such an insult.
Ladies and Gentlemen let me present to you the Lib Dem candidate for Springfield county council election. He is currently a Cllr for the Lawns already at City level.
He’s calling some of us pigs? That’s nice
His brother was also so awful to my mum she had to remove a post a few months ago because she was receiving so much hatred after his comments .
Seems to run in the family….
You should be embarrassed of yourselves if you have a Lib Dem sign outside your house with these sorts of candidates.
If they knock at your door this weekend be sure to ask them why they think it’s ok to call locals pigs?
Another one - Vikram Divar was already known to the authorities. In 2023, reports indicate he was accused of stealing more than £1,000 worth of knives from a local Sikh temple, leading to concerns being raised within the community and complaints being made to Police.
If someone has previously come to police attention in relation to alleged knife-related incidents, it is reasonable to ask whether that history was known to officers when they attended the scene involving Henry Nowak in 2025.
Was all available intelligence considered? Were officers fully aware of any previous incidents and concerns? If so, how did that information influence the decisions made on the day?
These are questions the public and Henry’s family deserve answers to.
Nobody can change what happened, but transparency and accountability matter. When a young man loses his life, every decision made before and during that incident must be properly examined.
The more information that continues to emerge, the more important it becomes that the full facts are established and made public.
Fed up of this on our streets. My MP didn’t even attend the grooming gang discussion in Parliament. It’s seriously so messed up. Who cares for us in Chelmsford?
