Let me say this very directly.
Football does not belong to investors. It belongs to the people who fill the stands and who stand on the touchline week in, week out, rain or shine.
The World Cup is not a product. It is the greatest competition in world sport, and it was never anyone's to sell. Dress the deal up however you like. Once you have sold a piece of it, you have sold out.
Football belongs to the fans. It always has, and it always will.
Happy to be back for (yet!) another season. Life in the old dog yet. Always so exciting to get going again. Nothing beats proper grassroots football. Looking forward to a big season ahead for @YellowsAndReds. Onwards. 👊⚽️👍🙏
Good turn-out at the First Team's opening training session at Boreham Wood FC this morning, run by new manager Oli Weiner. Another session next Sunday, trailists are welcome - email [email protected] for details. 💛❤️
England should’ve won this game by two goals. We’ve gone right into our shells at a time where we should’ve pressed home the issue, and this is going to sting maybe more than any of the other heartbreaks.
A World Cup semi final. Even post 2018 it feels astonishing & unfathomable. Wallies, brollies, Bloemfontein, Iceland - but now here we are: a second semi final out of the last three World Cups. Unthinkable to those of us who dared to dream through all those years of devastation.
That wasn’t pretty, Norway certainly had their moments (but they are a good technical team with a pedigree target man), and we huffed and puffed at times. But we also found a way and actually, really, we were pretty bloody solid for the last part of the 90 and through extra time.
That’s what’s required in tournaments, and fair play to Tuchel for finding solutions (albeit belatedly). Insane heat and humidity, spirited opponents, injury & illness issues in the squad - put it all together and it was just as positive as it was troublesome.
Absolute bedlam on Regents Park Road just now. Finchley Mental. Thoroughly enjoyable beeping my car along with everyone else. Football is just the best.
Feel genuinely privileged, and a little emotional, to have watched that. Absolutely outstanding - truly special. The determination, the hard work, the organisation, the desire. One of the all time great England games.
I'm not a huge fan of Spence but the way he's being blamed for yesterday's goal is ridiculous. He had to make a choice of which unmarked player to pick and it was the correct one.
He also didn't have a poorer game than anyone else, in fact, better than some.
Sheep everywhere.
The club don’t deserve that, none of the board, directors, management, half of the players barely deserve it. But you, me, everyone who’s life, much as we don’t want to admit it, revolves around this wonderful, awful, incredible club, deserves it. We are the lifeblood. COYS
I’ve tried to let it sit, after reflection & sleep. But I see little positive. Yes, they’re showing energy & desire. Yes, it’s light years better than the Frank-Tudor hellscape. But Stamford Bridge & St James Park are often two Spursy stadiums of sadness. Tough for us from here.
