Congress has the ability to fix this but refuses to take the steps necessary to keep it fully funded. Congress has borrowed from the fund for years but has never paid it back.

Lieu was reacting to a video of Rollins insisting that this new screwworm problem traces "back to the last administration" and Biden's nonexistent "open border policy."

This is yet another blatant example of the Trump administration coming into power, breaking something that they don't understand, and then blaming Biden for the consequences. They are pathologically incapable of taking responsibility for any of their blunders.

"Dear @SecRollins: Did the Screwworm come from the trump Administration’s beef import plan with Argentina?" Lieu wrote in a followup post, boosting a report that Trump signed a trade deal with Argentina that permitted "unrestricted beef imports" from that country despite its screwworm problem.

Screwworms, which devour tissue and can kill cattle, have been detected in a growing number of calves in Texas. One case has been discovered in a dog. The pest had been considered eradicated in the United States for decades, but under Elon Musk's tenure at DOGE, the government slashed preventive measures and funding aimed at hampering the spread of the creature.

Before those cuts, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), spent tax dollars on monitoring and containing the spread of screwworm in Central America. It was one of the most worthwhile government investments on the books, because it helped stop destructive outbreaks like the one we're currently witnessing.

"Trump GUTTED funding for screwworm detection and fired 25 percent of workers whose job it was to monitor the disease," Congressman Shri Thanedar wrote on X.

We know who's to blame here and it's not Joe Biden. It's Donald Trump and Elon Musk, ignorant oligarchs who were so hellbent on slashing spending to pay for more tax cuts for the obscenely rich, that they didn't care what they destroyed in the process.

According to a new report, the Social Security trust fund—which helps pay Social Security benefits—will now run out of money in 2032, a year earlier than expected.

Why? Because Trump’s “big beautiful bill” is depleting the fund faster. Recipients will see their benefits slashed by 22% if Congress doesn’t act.

BREAKING📷 A woman donated $1 million to Trump's super PAC. Three weeks later, her son a convicted tax criminal was pardoned. His pardon application literally mentioned her donation.
Her name is Elizabeth Fago. Her son, Paul Walczak, had pleaded guilty to federal tax crimes. The pardon application filed on his behalf explicitly cited his mother's million-dollar donation to MAGA Inc. as a reason he deserved clemency. Trump signed the pardon. Walczak walked free and was relieved of more than $4 million in restitution he owed.
That is one entry on a donor list of 58 people who gave a million dollars or more.
MAGA Inc., Trump's super PAC, has now raised over $305 million since the 2024 election five times more than any presidential super PAC in history at this stage. The Brennan Center called it "completely unprecedented." Ninety-six percent of it came from donors giving $1 million or more. Sixty-two percent from those giving $5 million or more. This is not a grassroots operation. It is a pay-window.

The Winklevoss twins gave $1 million — also while their crypto platform Gemini was under SEC investigation. That investigation was dropped in February 2025.
Energy Transfer, the Texas pipeline company, and its CEO Kelcy Warren gave a combined $25 million — while Energy Transfer was actively suing a federal regulatory agency in court.
OpenAI President Greg Brockman and his wife gave $25 million — as the Trump administration was actively shaping AI policy in Silicon Valley's favor.
Then there are the appointments. Benjamin Landa gave $5 million then became Trump's ambassador to Hungary. Kelly Loeffler and her husband gave $5 million she now runs the Small Business Administration. Warren Stephens gave $2 million now ambassador to the United Kingdom. Jared Isaacman gave $2 million now NASA administrator.
And Isabela Herrera, a 25-year-old self-employed financial consultant whose only prior political donation was $20 to Pete Buttigieg in 2020, somehow contributed $3.5 million to MAGA Inc. Her father a Venezuelan billionaire facing federal bribery charges was pardoned by Trump in January 2026. Campaign Legal Center has filed a formal complaint with the FEC alleging she was a straw donor for her father.
This is not dark money. This is public record.

Rollins wants to blame Biden’s “open borders” for screwworm.

Tiny problem: USDA and CDC describe this as an animal-health failure driven by livestock, pets, wildlife, surveillance, and sterile-fly capacity, not some magic parasite caravan.

She also skips the budget history.

Trump-era cuts weakened the USDA/international systems that help hold the screwworm line. Then Biden’s USDA put $109.8M into emergency control in 2023 and another $165M in 2024.

So no, this wasn’t “nothing was done.”

If you’re going to politicize flesh-eating parasites, at least have the decency not to edit out the damn funding trail.
