@BigJayRobertson@simonmaechling@BonkoEl I am happy to hear that, and I say that without a sense of sarcasm. I am also happy that we could have a civil discussion where we don't necessarily agree on everything. Have a nice day Jay!
@BigJayRobertson@simonmaechling @BonkoEl As I said before, I am not necessarily against GMOs, not even corn GMOs, but we have to think things through. I am not interested in this pro/contra debate that we are having now.
@BigJayRobertson@simonmaechling @BonkoEl 90% of corn produced in the USA are GMOs, but there is no connection with corn syrup. With all due respect, but I am leaving this debate.
@BigJayRobertson@simonmaechling @BonkoEl Leading to the USA becoming one of the most obese countries in the world, with many people suffering from diabetes.
@BigJayRobertson@simonmaechling @BonkoEl It is not as predictable as you think. The introduction of GMO corn led to such an abundance of corn that the food industry turned it into syrup and added it to as many foods as possible, creating a competitive advantage over healthier options.
@BigJayRobertson@simonmaechling @BonkoEl Most people are or pro or contra GMOs, while I believe the only correct answer is: it depends, and it depends on a lot of things. Unfortunately for crop science companies it mostly depends on how much money they can make with it.
@simonmaechling@BigJayRobertson @BonkoEl I am not necessarily against GMOs, it just depends what is actually altered in the plant or animal. I think you also agree on that?
@BigJayRobertson@simonmaechling @BonkoEl The problem that I have with GMOs is that we are actually speaking about a wide range of applications ranging from fixing a single point mutation to swiping genes or introducing completely foreign genes. Somehow it feels like opening a box of Pandora.
