Brilliant scam.

Chapeau… or shame?

A few days ago, a good friend of mine, now in his 70s, called me.

He had been contacted by a so called crypto recovery service.

They had a professional website.

They claimed they had recovered 12 BTC that belonged to him.

They even helped him “restore” what looked like his Binance account.

His name.

His profile.

His balance.

Everything looked real.

Then came the catch.

Before the Bitcoin could be released, he had to pay a security and compliance fee.

When he said he couldn’t afford it…

They negotiated.

Yes.

They negotiated the price of their own scam.

Later, we discovered the truth.

There was no Binance account.

There were no 12 BTC.

There was no on chain transaction.

Just a perfectly built illusion.

One of the people even called me afterwards, introduced himself as a lawyer, and accused me of interfering with his “business.”

My answer was simple:

If you’re intelligent enough to build something this sophisticated, why don’t you use that talent to build something that actually helps people?

That conversation stayed with me.

Because the real problem isn’t intelligence.

It’s how we choose to use it.

I have enormous respect for every founder, entrepreneur, developer, and team that spends years building something real.

Working with lawyers.

Auditors.

Compliance.

Regulators.

Facing setbacks.

Choosing integrity over shortcuts.

Trust takes years to build.

It only takes minutes to destroy.

Here’s my question:

Should we admire the brilliance behind a perfectly executed scam…

Or should we be ashamed that such talent is wasted on deception?
