After nearly nine years, this week marked the end of a special professional chapter—one that started in January 2017 with a call from @henrymcmaster and my six-month commitment to help with the transition between administrations.  Serving as Chief Legal Counsel to the Office of the Governor was an unexpected but unrivaled professional honor.  The job was equal parts challenging and personally and professionally enriching, and the chance to work with such dedicated colleagues and friends in the Office of the Governor and across state government made it fun and even more fulfilling.   From the first day to the last, and whether in state circuit court or the U.S. Supreme Court, and in virtually every court in between, the privilege of appearing, arguing, or signing briefs as “Counsel for Governor McMaster” was never lost on me.  Although Governor McMaster often seemed to be more like a managing partner than a traditional client, he was and will remain a mentor.  I am grateful to have had the opportunity to observe and learn from his collaborative leadership, and the opportunity to play a supporting role in many of the Governor’s important initiatives will remain a source of pride.

Before returning to private practice and launching @LimehouseLaw, I was proud to hand the reins to Grayson Lambert, who assumed the role of Chief Legal Counsel after joining the Office in 2021 and serving with distinction as Chief Deputy Legal Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel.  I am similarly proud of (and thankful for) the other talented members of the “law firm” team: Erica Shedd, Tyra McBride, and Cameron Cox, as well as alumni Michael Shedd, Mardi Fair, and John McIntosh, and the many now-practicing attorneys who served as law clerks over the years.
