1/3 Rare interview with Satoshi Hashimoto - 橋本さとし, the voice of Terry Bogard, from Neo Geo Freak Vol. 5 (Sept. 1995).

Hashimoto explains how Fatal Fury 2 became his first real voice-recording role, why his kickboxing experience helped him perform Terry’s fighting cries, and why he believes a voice actor’s job is to “sell dreams through the voice.”

He also talks about Terry’s hidden sensitivity, his own obsession with American rock and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and why he wants fans to feel that the man behind the voice is as close to Terry Bogard as possible.

HIGHLIGHTS

_ Satoshi Hashimoto had been playing Terry Bogard since Fatal Fury 2, succeeding the original voice performer.

_ Terry was actually Hashimoto’s first proper voice-recording role.

_ Hashimoto primarily considered himself a stage actor rather than a professional voice actor, and belonged to Gekidan Shinkansen.

_ He refused to imitate Terry’s previous performer. His philosophy was simply to become Terry and perform the role with everything he had.

_ Hashimoto had previous voice experience as an FM Osaka DJ, as well as through commercials and radio drama narration.

_ He viewed voice acting as another expressive “drawer” available to an actor and believed it could strengthen his stage acting.

_ His biggest realization was that voice acting is extremely difficult because the voice is the performer’s only means of expression.

_ Hashimoto practiced kickboxing, which gave him a practical understanding of what kinds of cries naturally accompany punches, kicks, movement and physical impact.

_ Despite that experience, Terry’s extremely high energy made recording physically demanding: Hashimoto says his throat continued burning even after sessions ended.

_ He felt Terry was particularly easy for him to portray because the character resembled his own personality.

_ Hashimoto describes Terry as outwardly cool, loud and unmistakably “American,” but also naïve, sensitive, warm-hearted and deeply attached to human relationships.

_ He interprets Terry’s cheerful, flamboyant behavior as possibly a form of camouflage hiding a much more sensitive personality underneath.

_ Hashimoto had been fascinated by America since childhood, beginning with KISS and the Eagles. By 1995, that fascination had developed into a major passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

_ He describes riding a Harley as experiencing the boundary between life and death and says that its pulse feels almost like the beating of his own heart.

_ Hashimoto did not want fans to hear Terry’s voice and then be disappointed when they saw the performer behind it.

_ This leads to his central philosophy: “A voice actor’s job is to sell dreams through the voice.”

_ He wanted to preserve Terry’s image for fans and become as close to Terry as he possibly could, both vocally and personally.

_ The interview ends with Hashimoto saying he was genuinely grateful for Terry because the character had brought new people and new encounters into his life.

It’s a game I truly love—one that has been part of my life for many years.

Those incredible character illustrations? That was Shinkiro.

From 1990 to 2000, he defined the visual identity of Neo Geo — Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown, The King of Fighters, Metal Slug… So many legendary titles brought to life through his art. His illustrations didn’t just promote the games — they gave them soul.

Later, he moved to Capcom and continued his legacy, working on GBA Capcom titles, CAPCOM VS SNK 1 & 2, and even contributing artwork to Street Fighter V and VI.

The Irish government's new Digital ID plan for social media users will be illegal expert claims.

Digital rights expert TJ McIntyre, a UCD associate professor of law, said “This is going to be an expensive national embarrassment. What is described is very vague, but as described, it is very clearly something that is illegal"

The Government’s proposals are “intrusive and dangerous”.

“There are key issues here in terms of freedom of expression, freedom to be able to read or communicate with others without being subject to government licensing, intrusive monitoring and the ability of the State to identify what you’re reading or the websites you visit,” Dr McIntyre said.

“It’s an extraordinarily intrusive proposal. Nothing like this has ever been done in an EU member state, and to my mind it cannot be done legally.”

#NoDigitalID Ireland to be the testing ground in Europe for Chinese-style mandatory Digital ID to access social media. The Irish government are planning to restrict access to social media to those who comply with mandatory Digital ID, linked to MyGovID. By connecting social media to the already controversial MyGovID means that every web page access could be traced back to a specific holder of a Public Services Card in Ireland. A Public Services Card is required to sign up to MyGovID, which is the online portal to access social welfare benefits and tax details, amongst other public services. The plan by the Irish government to link MyGovID to access social media is already underway with a pilot to take place in the first quarter of 2026. They will try to get this dangerous government overreach over the line under the guise of protecting under 16 year olds from the harms of social media. This is mandatory Digital ID through the back door. If you do not comply you will be frozen out of social media.

Ireland was the testing ground in Europe for the draconian COVID Pass, by removing the option of a rapid antigen test to coerce people to take the vaccine. As a result 700,000 out of 770,000 of our young people in Ireland aged 18 to 24 took the vaccine to participate in society, the highest level in Europe if not the world. Ireland is to become a testing ground once again. What better way to COERCE Irish people to comply with Digital ID than to freeze them out of accessing social media?.

If the government succeed in getting their draconian plans over the line it will mark the most monumental attack on online free speech in Irish history, as it will give those in power the right to monitor everything we say online It is a sinister plan to get mandatory Digital ID through the back door. What is to stop successive governments from implementing a social credit system if you say something online that is against the narrative of the establishment?. Your social welfare benefits and right to work could be restricted by this massive government overreach, if you step out of line. Digital ID is a precursor for CBDC and a cashless society. The EU is in the process of implementing a European Central Bank digital euro. If we go along with this we will be transposed into a CBDC Digital ID cashless society whereby your every financial transaction will be tracked, and your access to money can be stopped.

If we do not RESIST this with all our might we face the end of humanity as we know it. A digital prison surveillance planet whereby the global corporations, governments and Bankers have complete control over every aspect of our lives.

It is up to us to push back against these draconian plans with all our might. We defeated the government's Referendum. We staved off the controversial Hate Speech 'thought police' Bill.
