Taking into account contextual factors is essential to understand fear of movement. Thanks to collaborators @LiesbetDebaets@meuldersann@LotteJanssens2 Lieven Danneels & Katleen Bogaerts
@ThomasMatheve et al. assert that using more context-specific self-report measures in chronic low back pain populations can reveal clinically-relevant variability in fear of movement that would otherwise remain undetected. Learn more in #PAIN https://t.co/WpE8wDo8ln
What if low back pain is not just about strength. but about timing?
This study explores anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) across multiple trunk muscles, revealing how the body prepares for movement before it even happens. A valuable contribution to how we understand motor control, variability, and movement preparation in low back pain
Rather than a simple delay in a single muscle, the findings suggest a more complex picture. Multi-muscle coordination is disrupted, potentially reflecting adaptive or protective strategies rather than isolated dysfunction.
The goal may not be to “activate one muscle earlier”, but to restore coordinated, task-specific motor control across the system.

@TDekkersPhysio Indeed, I recently had an infiltration for a nerve root problem. Never felt this lancinating, electric pain that you can often read in text books. Only when they accidentally touched the nerve root with the needle I felt this type of pain. Description in the article is familiar
Today we had a wonderfull morning at the REVA Research Day where our Spine, Head and Pain Research Unit Ghent presented an overview of the team members, main research lines and ongoing projects to our department 💫

@Retlouping Imo, in acute LBP - even nonspecific LBP - temporary avoidance of certain activities is justified and sometimes even necessary. Not sure why, if you have severe acute LBP, you should continue with all activities? Even very painful ones? Load management in acute MSK pain matters
@wduyck@VanDammeEDU@gerardgovers Doet me denken aan wat Johan Braeckman zei in zijn 'afscheidsinterview' ivm funding voor bepaalde projecten
