With schools closing early all over the place this week because of high temperatures, worth taking note that schools could've finished the year earlier if it wasn't for the endless list of legislative school holidays that have been added and will be added.
6. Zero emission buses. Some helpful provisions relating to how transportation aid is calculated when districts receive federal or state assistance. NYSERDA to create a zero emission bus resource center. We know MUCH more needs to be done about this law.
5. Science of reading proposal is in. Schools must verify their curriculum and insurrection practices align with the commissioner promulgated best practices by start of the 2025-26 academic year.
3. Covid leave. Governor proposed expiring it in the next few months. Agreement will keep this completely absurd policy in place through July 2025. Hopefully gone for good at that point.
Education budget bill out.
1. As expected, tier 6 now has a 3 year FAS instead of 5. Cost to ERS is .4% of billable salary and cost to TRS IS .12% of billable salary. These figures will increase over time.
