Could Real Madrid bringing up the Negreira case again simply be them being salty?
I was watching a documentary on Barcelona's rise, and the timeline is fascinating.
Barcelona struggled badly from 2001–2004, going trophyless for four consecutive seasons. Then they brought in players like Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Deco and started winning again.
Then came the golden generation.
Messi. Xavi. Iniesta. Busquets.
Between 2008 and 2012, Barcelona were arguably playing the most dominant football we've ever seen. That dominance even translated to Spain, with the national team winning the 2008 and 2012 Euros and the 2010 World Cup.
Even after Pep left, Barcelona still won another treble under Luis Enrique.
You can question the Negreira case and whether Barcelona gained any refereeing advantage from those payments, that remains a serious and disputed issue.
But let's not pretend Barcelona weren't an absolutely ridiculous football team.
Maybe there was more to the story. Maybe there wasn't.
But watching that Barcelona side play, it was genuinely difficult to argue that they needed anyone's help to dominate football.
As for Real Madrid bringing it up again?
Maybe they're just salty.
