To establish a good grazing wedge and maintain grass quality, maximise grazing demand as conditions improve, targeting dry areas and lower covers. If a large proportion of the 1st rotation has been grazed, start the 2nd rotation if 1st paddocks grazed are above 2,700 kg DM/ha.
On farm grass growth has exceeded plot growth predictions. High levels of rainfall over the past number of weeks have made grazing conditions difficult. Prioritise grazing were possible, using on-off grazing and targeting the drier areas. @CIELivestock1@DiscoverCAFRE@daera_ni
More than 20 working farms will be highlighting the quality, availability & cost effectiveness benefits of buying local, as one of the biggest free awareness initiatives, Open Farm Weekend which is run by @UFUHQ launches today with @bankofireland confirmed again as title sponsor
What are the major influences on aerobic spoilage?
#Feedout
🐮 Feedout rate and technique
🐮 Silages with high yeasts at opening
🐮 Silages high in sugars
🐮 Silages fed in warm weather
🐮 Aerated silages, eg mixed in TMR
What are you doing to minimise aerobic spoilage?
Plot growth is currently predicted to exceed the long-term average during the next two weeks. It is important to achieve target residuals during this round to ensure quality grass for spring. Aim to graze drier fields first during the last round, to target for early turnout.
On this World School Milk Day @AFBI_NI wants to test your knowledge on all things #MILK. Comment with your answers & check back at 3pm when we will reveal all.
❔Q2/5 How long does it take for a cow to convert grass to milk? a.24hrs b.2d c.5d🥛

My husband opened a new carton of milk when there was still some left in the old one. I asked why and he said there wasn't enough in the old one for a full glass, and he didn't want to mix the milk of two different cows. My husband is 47.
Once recycled, milk containers are cleaned, sorted, and reprocessed. The recycled plastic can even be used in new milk containers, which today contain up to 40% recycled content. More info in our video about #milk and #recycling 👉 https://t.co/a9JWOzCD8c #sustainabiledairy

All set up for @UKDairyDay for the @BarenbrugUK sponsored grass clinic. @AFBI_NI bred variety Galgorm in pride of place on our species display. Always nice to bring a wee bit of home with me on my travels 😉
'The price of inputs has increased dramatically...we haven't got nearly enough food for the incoming season.'
GB News' Dougie Beattie is in Northern Ireland speaking to farmer Sam Hannah to find out how energy prices are impacting farming.
Dry conditions throughout August resulted in low grass growth across the East, with many areas only receiving 8-30mm of rainfall. With the start of September, many areas have seen similar, if not higher, levels of rainfall across the weekend compared to the whole of August.
A debt of gratitude is due to George and Ian who led the Organising Committee and made a massive contribution to the @BritishGrass Summer Meeting 2022. @UlsterGrassland@DiscoverCAFRE
Last visit of the @BritishGrass tour is the @GreenmountSRC hill farm. What a location to finish 3 great days. Congratulations to the host farmers and @GrasslandClub and @UlsterGrassland for all their hard work. They’ve shown N.I. Farming at its very best
It’s another damp morning but Day 3 is getting underway during @BritishGrass Summer Meeting as we visit the beef farm of Alastair McNeilly near Antrim #BGSSM22
