Why this is so crazy is due to how this was judged: the more engine moves played, the higher the player appears on the list.
Only… engines didn’t exist in Fischers day. He was playing engine lines without ever looking at an engine. Now a days players can get through the opening and even the middle game just using moves from a computer.
But still, even without it Fischer outranked modern legends like Nepomniachtchi and Anand.
