I call my students by their last name...... until I learn their last name, it's "Sir" or "Ma'am."

Impossible Expectations - will have you think that either YOU are not enough or you DIDN'T DO enough as a teacher. Both of which are crazy.

My strategy for failing Ss: I picked one thing that I wanted them to learn from the lesson. Everytime I redirected them, Everytime I woke them up, Everytime they walked in late, I asked them that question. Eventually, they learned the answer and got a D. We do this every week.

I agree with this: Kids will always be the same, in that they will adapt quickly to their environment. If in an environment with minimal accountability and never ceasing (covid) excuses, they will master poor performance.

I love that fun can be a side effect of learning, not an objective.

The exposure they have with technology overstimulates them to the point where it's hardly possible to impress and engage every student.

We should be careful that the safeguarding of rights is not mistakingly misappropriated as entitlement when it comes to our youth.

I believe that technology has significantly impacted the creativity and imagination of a great number of our students.... and some of them think you can "scroll through" or "swipe left" their way through life..... They can't....

I wasn't brought up in the era of social media, so I can't speak to that perspective. However, when I did get access to it, the discipline AND life skill training that I had PRIOR informed how I used it and how I interacted with the people it connected me to.

So often, especially as a novice teacher, one can think that your public service job makes you a servant to everyone else, and the expectation is that you are not the priority. Well, that's not sustainable, and veteran teachers know better.
