I am writing because my husband and I are extremely disappointed with our recent travel experience.
Our American Airlines flight from Minneapolis was delayed due to a maintenance issue, which caused us to miss our connecting Qatar Airways flight on our journey to Doha and Salalah. We understand that delays can happen, and we do not blame the airport staff who were trying to help us.
After missing our connection, we spent nearly three hours at the airport, from around 7:20 PM until 10:00 PM, trying to find a solution. The counter representative was professional and genuinely tried to help us. However, after spending hours working on our case, he informed us that neither airline could provide hotel accommodations for our family. This was extremely disappointing and left us feeling abandoned at a time when we needed help the most.
What made the situation even more difficult was that we were traveling with our three young children, ages 1, 3, and 5. By that point, they were exhausted, hungry, and crying after a long day of travel. As parents, it was heartbreaking to watch our children struggle while we waited for help.
Throughout the process, we were told that assistance would be provided. At one point, we were told Qatar Airways would take care of us, and at another point we were told American Airlines would take care of us. Unfortunately, in the end, neither airline was able to assist us with accommodations.
After waiting for hours, my husband and I had no choice but to leave the airport and look for a hotel ourselves. We walked to nearby hotels asking if rooms were available and eventually found a place to stay. We then had to order food for our family around 11:00 PM because our children were hungry and had not had a proper meal.
While we appreciate the efforts of the counter representative, we are deeply disappointed that our family was left to handle everything on our own after a maintenance-related delay caused us to miss our international connection.
We respectfully request reimbursement for our hotel and meal expenses and a review of how this situation was handled. We believe our family deserved better support under these circumstances.
