LAGOS DSVA ENGAGES RESIDENTS OF LADABA KINGDOM ON SGBV AND PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE ONI LEPIA OF LEPIA KINGDOM
On Friday, 6th February 2026, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, held a community sensitization session in Ladaba Kingdom under the leadership of His Royal Majesty, Alayeiluwa Oba Nureni Sikiru Odedina (Alugbin I Ilufemiloye), Oni Ladaba of Ladaba Kingdom. The engagement focused on deepening awareness of Sexual and Gender Based Violence, SGBV, its forms, root causes, consequences, and the importance of timely reporting and survivor centered response.
Residents were sensitized on Domestic Violence, Rape and Defilement, Child Abuse, Emotional and Psychological Abuse, and harmful traditional practices. Emphasis was placed on breaking the culture of silence, encouraging safe disclosure, and supporting survivors without blame or stigma. Reporting channels and referral pathways to DSVA and other relevant service providers were highlighted to ensure access to help when needed.
During the interactive session, concerns were raised about the distance of the kingdom from the Agency’s secretariat and the wide geographical spread of its settlements, which may affect timely access to support services. In response, Kabiyesi suggested training selected community representatives on basic SGBV response and domestic violence case management, particularly mediation and referral processes, to strengthen community based intervention and bridge existing gaps.
The team also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Alayeiluwa Oba Adeleke Akibu Ismaila (Esilu Meje Akoko Okiriboto II), Oni Lepia of Lepia Kingdom, to formally seek approval for a similar sensitization exercise. Kabiyesi warmly received the delegation and expressed readiness to collaborate in promoting SGBV prevention and protection of vulnerable persons.
The engagements further reinforced the vital role of traditional institutions in driving zero tolerance for SGBV and fostering safer communities.
