PhD candidate at Medical University of South Carolina studying microbe-microbe interactions in the gut; C difficile and K pneumoniae are the coolest bugs ever!
The @ASIPath annual meeting in Salt Lake City was incredible! I'm so proud of my Difficult Conversations workshop. I'm also happy to have met so many people in person that I knew virtually. I can't wait to see everyone again! #conference#friends
The Lab Coat Project funding over the 6-week window shows we're 50% funded in 3 weeks!
Unfortunately, orders have slowed since launch and we're projected to fall short by about 150 lab coats. Have colleagues that might love this? Send them this link:

We've already spent over $5,000 on materials and manufacturing to develop and test this lab coat. You'll see below why it's totally worth it. They each filled out detailed feedback forms that took almost 2 hours. Our first pass wasn't perfect, but most of them commented it was "...the best lab coat I've ever had". 😎
👎Areas needing improvement:
-In the women's sizing, the shoulders were too big from about the XL up to the 4XL. This is common in lab coats due to "standard size grading" that doesn't account for how womens bodies are shaped across the sizes. We're fixing this in the final verison.
-The dark metal finish on the snaps rubbed off on the black ceramic lab bench tops. We're changing to unfinished stainless steel snaps of the same size to prevent this.
-Most found it too short. We're lengthening it by almost 2 inches to reach the kneecaps, except in the women's XXS-S sizes.
-The interior phone pocket was hard to access, so it's now going to be nested inside the front left lower pocket.
😍Things they loved:
-The sleeves were a #1 favorite. They loved the slim, tapered design and long knit cuffs that eliminate clumsiness while still covering your skin.
-The strength of the snaps was "perfect" in the words of most. This was an improvement from my first prototypes where they were much too weak. We changed suppliers to fix it.
-The voting on the weight and breathability of the fabric was "just right". Most found it perfect, and a few fell on either side of too hot or too cold. So this is the best we can do.
-Most loved the zippered side vents for pants access that won't snag on doorknobs.
-About half used the belt to pull in the waist and give them a better form-fit to their figure.
-The pockets and loops gave them TOO MUCH storage. So we removed a few redundant ones to clean up the design and help get our costs under control.

🎉The Lab Coat Project is OPEN for pre-orders! 🥼
We need to hit 600 orders in 6 weeks to crowdfund half the manufacturing cost. If you don't need one, you can still donate one to STEM classrooms at cost to help us reach the goal.

Gotta love when you put in a service request, get the run around for months, then then company finally gets back to you a week after your warranty is up to say that they won't fix it due to expired warranty.
