Indie-author and writer of 'Tieless in Tokyo' - the entertaining, silly and (nearly) enormously successful book about ten days spent in the Japanese capital.
To celebrate ten years since it was first published, Tieless in Tokyo has been refreshed, re-edited and re-typeset. And for the first time ever, it’s now available as a glorious HARDBACK! 🤩

Hey archives fans, it's blog time!
In this installment: I get attacked by cake, fall over, ruin my trousers and nearly catch fire. 🍰💥👖🔥
"Thornbury Town Trust and the Containers of Doom": read with care, it's dangerous. ⛔️🚧⛔️

Look! It's another of my amazing blogs for @GlosHeritageHub where I blabber on for ages about everything but the subject I'm supposed to be writing about and then jarringly crowbar in an archive related matter at the very end. Perfect! 👌
Read it here! 👉 https://t.co/Iz9WMt7ZaR
I've just come up with an amazing Christmas joke for all my archival friends:
Q: What do you call an archivist who doesn't have a writing implement at Christmas?
A: Good King Pencil-less
I thought I'd waffled on a bit too much in this blog. But after some important calculations, I can reveal:
▪️the Waffle to Serious ratio is 1.3 to 1
So it contains 56.5% waffle and therefore scores a Serious Rating of 4.35 (out of 10).
Unlike this post, which is 100% silly. 👍
How does one write a fun and interesting archival based blog about Hailes Abbey when challenged to begin with: “I poured the milk into my tea…”?
Well, have a read and see if I've either completed the challenge or waffled on a bit too much this time. 😆

Warning: I've written a brand new blog for @GlosHeritageHub and it's going to land very soon.
It's about the place in the photos below and for some reason includes the words “killed by rhubarb”.
So stay tuned to find out more, blog (and murderous rhubarb) fans!
Although I thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing, I became rather critical of the book and couldn't help making notes and a few edits here and there.
So there's potential for a new and improved second edition. Maybe. Perhaps.
Stay tuned for more news, Tieless fans!

This may sound incredibly egotistical, but I recently re-read my own book.
This was inspired by a friend who visited Tokyo earlier this year and I wanted to revisit old memories - which is exactly why I wrote the book in the first place!
I have a new favourite word:
Flunge
It's a term used in the sport of fencing. It's a combination of the words flèche and lunge and relates to the forward moments of the fencer.
