Something is happening to women in their 50s, and I don't think people are paying enough attention to it.

I'm watching women who spent decades being the reliable ones. The peacemakers. The caregivers. The ones who kept the family together, swallowed their frustration, carried other people's emotional baggage, and were told that being "good" meant being accommodating.

And now something has shifted.

They're looking at marriages that have been one-sided for years.

Friendships built entirely on their effort.

Jobs that took everything they had and gave very little back.

Family roles that expected endless sacrifice while offering little appreciation in return.

And they're asking a simple question:

"Why am I still doing this?"

What's fascinating is that many of these women aren't becoming angry. They're becoming clear.

Clear about their boundaries.

Clear about their value.

Clear about what they will and will not tolerate with the years they have left.

The guilt that used to keep them silent doesn't seem to work anymore.

The fear of disappointing everyone else doesn't seem to work anymore.

The pressure to be endlessly available doesn't seem to work anymore.

An entire generation of women appears to be looking around and deciding:

"If this relationship, job, friendship, or obligation only works when I'm the one doing all the sacrificing, then maybe it doesn't work at all."

And honestly?

It's one of the most interesting social shifts I've seen in a long time.

#China says it sent #Kenya goods worth Sh1.3 TRILLION in 2025. @KRACorporate @KRACare recorded imports of only Sh672 billion. That leaves a Sh629 BILLION gap that DOES NOT appear in our books.

Over five years, the gap has grown to Sh2.76 TRILLION.

This cannot be brushed aside as a minor difference in paperwork. Kenya’s import figures should generally be higher than China’s export figures because imports are recorded on a cost, insurance and freight basis. Yet our recorded value is almost half.

That raises serious questions about UNDER-DECLARATION, mis-invoicing, customs valuation and POSSIBLE revenue leakage.

Customs is one of government’s BIGGEST revenue sources. If imports from our largest trading partner can fall through such a huge gap year after year, then Kenya DOES NOT simply have a revenue problem. We have a revenue LEAKAGE problem.

@KRACorporate and the @KeTreasury MUST explain this.

We need a full public reconciliation of China’s export records and KRA’s import records for 2021 to 2025. We need effective data-sharing with Chinese customs, targeted audits of high-risk imports, and accountability for the systems and officials responsible for closing these gaps.

Kenyans are being told that the country needs more taxes because government has no money. But before taxing Kenyans more, close the holes through which their money is already escaping.

Kenyans are not poor. We are being taxed in a system that may be failing to collect what is already owed.
