Kyle Shanahan pretty much confirmed why the 49ers draft process is flawed and broken.
On the Rich Eisen Show, he explained that he only has time to watch highlight packages of draft prospects for two months before the draft.
That’s not abnormal for a head coach. Their job is to coach the team and the grind is non-stop from late July through January and February.
But when Shanahan has as much personnel say as he does, and he’s the one making the picks, that’s when it becomes a problem because the 49ers aren’t leaning on the GM and scouting department who are scouting these prospects year-round.
This is a big reason why the 49ers have missed so often in the draft and from 2020-23, the Niners drafted 27 players total, but only four got multi-year second contracts with the team.
