And a new ominous warning from the study: The underlying causes of this war that killed over 100,000 haven't gone away and war could break out again:

"The lack of clear provision for the protection of civilians, the failure to address the underlying causes of the Tigray conflict, the absence of evidence of meaningful political dialogue, and reports of ongoing attacks against civilians in Tigray, suggest that renewal of hostilities in Tigray may be imminent"

The hard data from this study also shows what human rights groups raised alarm about for years: Civilians were intentionally targeted across the board

"The mortality ratio, when compared to those from other settings, does not support assertions that the military strategy primarily involved the targeting of adult males, and instead suggests widespread killing of women and older adults who would not have posed a combat threat."

Ethiopia's brutal Tigray war from 2020-2022 didn't get a lot of attention in the West

But a new academic study now sheds light on the scale of the killing in that war: An estimated 102,000 (!!!) deaths
