@ruth_parslow @BrainsOnNature Magnetite is the hardest biomineral discovered so far. It contains crystallized iron phosphate. The hardness makes the teeth abrasion resistant which is a great adaptation for an animal that grazes algae off of rocky substrates. The magnetic properties are just a fun coincidence!

The teeth of chiton radulas are made out of the mineral magnetite so they're magnetic! 😁

@bart_braun @PaulaBiomine I tested it with several chiton species and it worked with all of them. The movement was the most dramatic with C. stelleri because they are such a large species with a large radula.
