January is hiring season. It is also scam season.
Every year, new budgets open, roles go live, and job seekers get hopeful.
Scammers know this. They never take a break.
Here are red flags every job seeker should know.
⚠️ If someone asks you to send your resume to a Gmail address instead of a corporate one, assume it is a scam.
⚠️ Even if they use a domain that looks real, visit it. Many scammers buy fake domains that lead to blank pages or unfinished sites.
⚠️ Check who you are talking to. Real recruiters usually have a history, connections, and activity. Many scammers have close to zero.
⚠️ If they ask for your resume, ask where to apply. For compliance reasons, real roles almost always go through an ATS.
⚠️ If they tell you your resume is not good enough and recommend a resume writer on Fiverr or Upwork, walk away. In many cases, it is the same person behind both messages.
Stay alert.
Protect your data.
And if you are job searching, I truly hope you find the right role soon.

As a parent, I think this video has taught me something useful.
I recommend that you should try it on your kids, too.
I have also shared it with my wife.
