IRBs are incredibly important to protect patient's rights - no doubt. But, when the IRB is so cumbersome, confusing, and frustrating that it requires specialistS and is overworked that it take months for retro reviews, it's time to rethink this. Thoughts?

Why do patients with liver injury or dysfunction have conjugated hyperbilirubinemia?
If hepatocytes conjugate, why doesn't this "liver function" decrease in settings of severe inflammatory or fibrosis?
