Tasnim News Agency reported, citing a senior source, that in recent days, the US has launched a wide-ranging campaign to discourage countries from participating in Iran’s memorial ceremonies for the martyred Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei.

The source said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio instructed all US embassies and missions to use all available resources to persuade host country officials not to attend the funeral ceremonies.

He also directed embassies to inform countries that participation in the ceremonies would be considered an unfriendly act from Washington’s perspective, according to Tasnim.

The agency added that, according to Arab diplomats, Rubio has personally raised the issue with his counterparts in at least five Arab countries.

US ambassadors in African countries were warned that participation in the ceremonies could lead to cuts in American aid to those states, according to Tasnim.

According to Tasnim, it is said that a major North African country reduced its level of participation in the ceremony over concerns about potential repercussions on its relations with the United States.

It added that 13 countries, including three from Eastern Europe, five African states, two Gulf countries, and two East Asian countries, have withdrawn from participation in the funeral ceremonies.

Some of the countries that pulled out under US pressure have sought to justify their absence, sending explanations through intermediaries or via diplomatic channels, the news agency added.
