Carefully analyze the conversation surrounding the decision not to allow the supposed LP’s to head the lab. Paid individuals without any knowledge on their roles. MO’s doing everything they are known for but enfa.

Korle Bu is 100 years but their doctors refer pathology cases to “Pathology Without Borders” (a private facility) near Mamprobi Police Station, established few months ago. Why are you doing this to yourself, KODA people 😳💁🏿. You can’t even lead your pathologists?
Whatever the so-called LP’s are pursuing now is something Medical Laboratory Scientists are known for, and receiving international accreditation and awards for. What’s new in your role?

Modern laboratories run on competence, accreditation systems, molecular diagnostics, quality management, laboratory governance, and scientific expertise. Across Ghana, Medical Laboratory Scientists already manage and sustain these systems daily.
The Honourable Minister of Health must therefore ignore subtle professional intimidation tactics disguised as “patient safety” arguments and continue strengthening the autonomy of the laboratory profession in Ghana.
Patient safety is protected by competence, standards, accreditation, and accountability not by professional dominance.
The future of Ghana’s laboratory system must remain competence-based, scientist-driven, collaborative, and aligned with ISO 15189:2022 and Act 857 not outdated hierarchy.
ISO 15189:2022 does not support professional hierarchy. It supports competence. The standard nowhere states that laboratories must be physician-led. It speaks about qualified and competent personnel capable of delivering accurate, reliable, and safe laboratory services.
Under Act 857, Medical Laboratory Science is an independent regulated profession under the Allied Health Professions Council and not under physician control and not under the Medical and Dental Council. Parliament was very clear on that.
If Medical Laboratory Scientists were legally meant to operate under pathologists, Act 857 would have said so. It did not.
The repeated attempts to portray Laboratory Physicians as default heads of all laboratory systems therefore raise an obvious question: if collaboration is truly the goal, why does every conversation end with demands for control, supervision, and leadership over a profession already recognized by law as autonomous?
Medical Laboratory Science in Ghana has moved far beyond the outdated perception of “bench assistants” waiting for physicians to interpret their work. The profession now includes MLSD holders, fellows, specialists, MSc and PhD-trained professionals with deep expertise in diagnostics, clinical interpretation, molecular medicine, quality systems, and laboratory leadership.
While Medical Laboratory Scientists spend years studying laboratory medicine directly and continuously, some now want the public to believe that a person who studied general medicine first and later specialized automatically becomes superior in all aspects of laboratory practice. Interesting logic.
Good Morning, Senior Colleague. 🫡
Since you asked what needs attention: Your own profession is bleeding. 🩸
As a fellow Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science, you know the rigor of the 6 years we spent. You know the value we bring. Yet, 1,000+ of your colleagues are rotting at home with 5 years of unemployment.
Don't let the profession die under your watch. You know the solution. Please, use your office to help fix this. 🇬🇭 #PostMLSDsNow #active
Doctor of Medical Lab Science was approved by WAHO and aligned with WAPCMLS to fix Ghana’s diagnostic gaps. Yet this vital cadre is sidelined… while ordinary Ghanaians still suffer delays, misdiagnoses, and weak lab systems.@JDMahama@KMAkandoh@mohgovgh#PostMLSDsNow
Lord knows we have given our best to be equipped over 6years to serve. Unfortunately Government has sidelined brains that should save lives! #PostMLSDsNow@ghonetv@tv3_ghana@ksheldonstudios

The real question should be:
Why are we intentionally limiting the quality of healthcare in this country when the experts we need are already available?
#PostMLSDsNow
Medicine is now an evidence based practice and laboratory scientists are those who provide the evidence. The physicians posted can’t look into patient’s eyes and determine if they have malaria, typhoid or some bacterial infection.

Three Medical Laboratory Doctors showed up at my gate. They’ve completed school but have no jobs. The government has refused to post them, so they’ve brought their issue to KSS to amplify their voices. They’ve moved from emailing me to physically coming to the studio because the situation is that critical. This country, man… 😩😩😩
