@JOziemkowski@CUSD200@MADISONCUSD200 Julie O! Thanks for all of your data crunching spring and summer work that made this possible! You made it possible!
1974 people! In the North, folks! Don’t let anyone tell you this is old news or “bringing up the past”. Thank you to those that pushed limits in 1974. Keep pushing through barriers to #equityineducation
Today in 1974-in #Boston, Massachusetts-opposition to court-ordered #schoolbusing turned violent on the opening day of classes. School buses carrying African American children were pelted with eggs, bricks & bottles, and police fought angry white protesters besieging the schools.
Had the first “time to meet w/the principal” talk w/ student in 2020-2021. My goals in those short talks: 1. “I’m a good kid” 2. “People here care about me” 3. “I will succeed” Have another statement kids should leave with in their toolbox? #yourcommunityschools#madisonstrong
More important than ever to ensure Maslow’s hierarchy of needs are met. School staff need to meet own physiological and safety needs before we can adequately nurture and support our students. Treat yourself!
It is extremely important for educators to work on their mental & physical health right now. Whether school is in person or virtual, we are dealing with stress that we have never encountered. Take time for yourself daily/weekly - read, walk, rest, spend time with loved ones.
MY BOOK OF THE WEEK FOR EDUCATORS OF BLACK CHILDREN: "Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?" If u have at least one Black child in your classroom, it is imperative that you study the work of educators who have done the research on educating Black children.
I’m proud of our staff as we continue to study the long term, generational equity issues affecting our students! Thanks @philvischer for the https://t.co/2kv2CxeDdr video. We continue to learn and I’m eager for where our work goes next. #YourCommunitySchools#madisonstrong
A5. Get to know him and what gets him excited. Find more kids that share that excitement. Help that child shine at school doing something they love with others that love it. #200edchat
A4. Helping kids to understand that they should develop their strengths, not just toil to improve the deficit areas. Spend more time working on what they love. #200edchat
A3. Educators are powerful role models. Students watch as teachers learn new skills, laugh off failure, try again, and push themselves to grow!#200edchat
A2. Each and every student has special interests. Figure it out, value it, celebrate it and bring it out at school. If all else fails, humor! #200edchat
Terrific! I cringe when I work with kids in middle school and they are doing long division to simplify improper fractions. I've seen charts on the wall showing kids the "formula." Formula? It's a number bond!
Yes, yes, yes! Problem-Based Learning isn’t just more fun! It’s more effective! That’s why it continues to be a school improvement focus @MADISONCUSD200
Introducing math and science through inquiry and problem-based instruction can pay off throughout elementary school, according to a massive international series of studies. https://t.co/5mwLINj9xh
