One of the best fly tying tips I’ve heard:
Think like a fish.

A fly can look great on your vise and still not look right to the fish.

Look at it from below. Hold it into the light. Then test how it rides in the water.

Simple idea — but a really good one from Ben Furimsky.

Greg Patterson of J. Stockard showed me this trick for euro nymphs.

Build a small wire ramp behind your tungsten bead before dubbing or wrapping the body.

It creates a smooth transition and eliminates that hard bead edge.
