Two Rutgers Greats!!!

[Richard Hurley, PhD @bentgrassdoctor]

"I can feel this guy has the it factor. My gut tells me Chris is a star."

This was Chris Gotterup and I at the Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial CC in May of 2024.

I first met Chris in his Freshman year at Rutgers -- played four years and graduated from RU.

@GCIMagazineGuy Tony is correct. Basic logic, it shouldn’t go unspoken, the reason you spend money to do renovations are just that to improve, to have better, more consistent conditions otherwise why put the money and effort in to do renovations! No matter what type of facility it is.

[Tim Christ @TimChrist1]

@GCIMagazineGuy Incredible Guy! Grateful to live in an era that I could see the incredible landscape through a round of golf rather than a hunted pioneer! I don’t think I would have lasted long!

[Tim Christ @TimChrist1]

@YeahClickClack @njgolf1900 @TheDROP_Pod Hopeful for a drier spring, there are some incredible holes forming here! Newark Golf will never be the same😁

Next up for @clevemetroparks should be restorations of Sleepy Hollow (Stanley Thompson) and Manakiki (Donald Ross). Essex County, New Jersey, is proving municipalities can find ways to fully restore great Golden Age layouts for less than what this sailing center will cost.

[Tim Christ @TimChrist1]

@YeahClickClack @GCIMagazineGuy I appreciate the positive energy, we have a great staff working hard to provide a unique experience, breaking ground at Weeq Sept 3rd! Stephen Kay, Garrett Wasson, and The Downes Group will be helping us create a “throw back” that will make George Low proud!

[Guy Cipriano @GCIMagazineGuy]

Another example of the accessible Golden Age architecture in the Essex County, New Jersey: the Principal’s Nose on the 15th hole Hendricks Field in Belleville. Jimmy Aquirre and team maintain this popular Charles Banks design renovated by Stephen Kay in 2021.

[Tim Christ @TimChrist1]

Proud to be a part of what our team was able to accomplish here! Starting with great bones, a great routing, and finishing with people who care deeply, great things can be accomplished! Thank to all for the positive feedback!

Well hello there Francis A. Byrne Golf Course!

This Essex County, NJ muni was built as a private club in 1926 by noted Seth Raynor disciple Charles Banks. A tortured history followed, and ultimately the county purchased the property in the 1970s.

A recent renovation really makes this place pop - square bunkering, cornered greens, and big contours abound. The Biarritz 2nd is a welcome sight and a highlight.

A wonderful way for public access golfers to get a taste of Raynor-Banks architecture.

The season was a journey. But continuous improvement is all about the journey en route to the destination. Here are my highlights as I am looking for the next step. https://t.co/SI3JHvu8nD
