I have emailed the authors of this paper, twice, asking for clarification about who authorised the use of ECT 500 times on one patient.
Still waiting.

The new Mental Health Act for Ireland, passed in April 2026, has made it illegal to administer ECT to children and adolescents under 18! (The Act has not yet been implemented, pending training, secondary legislation and such)
A major step.
Will @rcpsych push for same in UK?
Hospital league tables are nasty, simplistic, retrograde & counterproductive. They will demoralise staff, generate cultures of fear & fail to value all that is unquantifiable in healthcare - kindness, compassion, humanity, discretionary effort. My piece:

Calling all IMGs 🙌🏽
I often hear about racism you're subject to & the barriers to speaking up.
There's pockets of good practice too which *needs* to spread, but there's often too many words & too little action.
Help change this. Share your experiences in confidence 🙏🏽 👇🏽
The public expect pressure on or workload of NHS staff and waiting times to get worse in the year ahead, and want to see improvement of working conditions to reduce the number of staff leaving as a top priority.
Our latest survey with @IpsosUK reveals public’s top priorities for NHS are addressing staff shortages and making it easier to access general practice.

On national TV, the Prime Minister claimed to have 'resolved' the nursing pay dispute.
This is untrue.
We remain in a formal trade dispute and the government is late with its award for this year.
A letter from @patcullen9 to PM @RishiSunak. 👇
If a short haul flight full of passengers crashed in the UK due to a safety failure it would be all over the media for days and there would be shock and outrage. This is more people than a short haul flight holds and it’s happened every week.
We have had a fabulous response to our @theRCN questionnaire about the learning needs of mental health and learning disabilities nurses helping clients in mental health services. BUT RMN’s and RNLD’s still have time to contribute - So please RT! https://t.co/zGQqQiMLB0

The #RCNStrike ballot - opening on 23 May across England - could mean our biggest strike mandate yet.
The fight to protect our patients, our profession, and the NHS: it all comes down to this.
Make it count - share to get the vote out as far as we can go. #FairPayForNursing
Too many nursing staff can't afford the basics. This is a national scandal and it's driven NHS staffing levels into crisis.
This is why we are balloting again for strike action. Make sure you are ballot ready, check your details now: https://t.co/m7HTsqOchQ
