On Friday at 3pm at the Aero, I'll be introducing a screening of COME AND SEE as part of @am_cinematheque's Bleak Week. Greatest antiwar movie, among the greatest movies ever. https://t.co/bdEsc1J53U
‘Masters Of The Universe’ review: Nicholas Galitzine wields the Sword Of Power in irreverent, conventional actioner. By @TimGrierson https://t.co/qGv42eaJWs
Silly and playful, MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is a conscientious attempt to make a throwback blockbuster that doesn't take itself too seriously. The strategy very nearly succeeds. https://t.co/vEbCz5hALY
"For all its dark comedy, the movie is most cutting when it moves away from the big set pieces and, instead, examines the small ways that employees lose their humanity to a capitalist system that’s out to destroy them."
Tim Grierson, Los Angeles Times
Screens @garterlane June 2nd
For Bleak Week at the @am_cinematheque, I'll be moderating a Q&A with Isabelle Huppert after a screening of HEAVEN'S GATE at the Egyptian on Friday. Extra tickets just became available: https://t.co/9kxDfWhPEl
On this week's episode, we review both "Backrooms" and the worst film of the year (so far).
Then, in our Reboot segment, we go back to 1994 for "Exotica."

Have a lovely Sunday.
For the @latimes, I hung out with Ashley Padilla, who is such a delightful human. We talked about the Groundlings class that changed her life, the stranger who brightened a dark day, and the voicemail she still has from her former boss Diane Keaton. https://t.co/Qb5BbL5ZDc

@unclegrambo@decider Mark, I loved what you created over there. Thanks for being the place where I got to write some of my favorite pieces, including my love letter to SHUTTER ISLAND. Excited for what's next for you.
Always my fave one to record—in addition to being very smart, these pros are great at dumb jokes that make my stomach hurt w/laughter. Extra grateful this year b/c I had so many logistical mishaps while recording that w/ less gracious guests I may have broken down. Good people❣️
totally expected but sucks because nate bargatze is so funny. i've always found the funniest part of him to be the wry way he describes malaise and slight idiocy (i also suffer from this). i think he'd be best used in a coen brothers film
Had a fabulous time on the @FilmComment podcast alongside Devika Girish, Justin Chain and Jessica Kiang. It was the final night of Cannes, and we talked about THE DREAMED ADVENTURE, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, COWARD and KEN RUSSELL'S THE DEVILS.

THE BREADWINNER: An extended ad for Toyota, Walmart, Shark Tank, the Tennessee Titans, All detergent, Kentucky Fried Chicken and, eventually, Nate Bargatze's standup specials, which I swear are funnier, more self-deprecating and humane than this colossally lazy, inept debacle.
