Offseason workouts aren’t for everyone. But neither is playing time or winning. Great athletes set a standard to be DISCIPLINED! Their subconscious screams “wake up & attack the day”! They listen to their deepest instincts to earn the title of greatness. Not everyone deserves it!
My rules for Open Gym play:
1. Balance the teams
2. Games to 10 points
3. All baskets are 1 pt
4. Foul a shooter, basket counts
5. No cherry picking
6. No NBA All Star Game Defense
7. Look to run & pitch ahead
8. When the running stops or the arguing begins, games end
3 huge mistakes players make in the off season:
They don't work hard enough or consistently enough
They don't work on the right things, meaning they work on cool, flashy things
They don't balance play vs. train enough. They don't get enough of "my time" to work on their game
No school can thrive with the absence of creativity, innovation and lifelong learning and the greatest threat to all 3 of these is disengagement…particularly from teachers.

How does teacher disengagement begin?
One word…DISRESPECT
PLAYERS: Nobody is entitled to playing time. It's earned during your training and practice sessions. Those sessions start now. Find ways to be valuable every day.
Are you tired of being called out for not giving your best? It's time to hold yourself accountable and commit to excellence. Let's make this year the year we don't need anyone to tell us to step up our game. #committoexcellence
Stop dealing w/ parents who:
- demand their freshman play varsity
- want to tell you how 2 coach
- are helicopters
- treat kid like a commodity
- threaten their kid will transfer
- dont respect coaching
Tell them to go somewhere else, youre killing the rest of the team culture
Things teachers want to say to parents…
-Take the phone away at night. Your kid isn’t getting enough sleep.
-Don’t believe everything your kid says. They lie…A LOT!
-Teach your kid to have some grit. Also teach them to be nice!
-Stop blaming everyone for your kid’s issues.
